Has anyone been to the wreckers in Kilsyth? They have 3 mk3s wrecking there and thought I might go on over and see if I can find some parts that I need.

Volkswagen VR6 Golf FOR Parts NOT Working | eBay
Sounds slightly wrecked but will probably go very cheap, if anyone in SA needs spares.

Hey everyone,
Im currently in the process of doing a turbo build to my mk3 vr6. Its all happening at JC Racing in Botany. Im curious as to what people think are some 'must do' modifications in order to have a reliable and healthy motor as well as drivetrain etc.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Henry,
From what I've researched, the bottom end needs ARP rod bolts and ARP head studs (to prevent the head lifting) with a decompression plate when running more than 7/8psi.
The gearbox a LSD will help but the 02a boxes aren't the strongest over 250kw or so. Maybe putting an 02m FWD box in would be good, I think Seb might have one possibly?
Other than that I don't think a whole lot is needed besides an oil cooler unless you're planning to go more than 300kw+. Tuning counts for a lot and it's good that you're going standalone so you won't have issue with bad files, etc.

The stock pistons are cast i'm petty sure, so you may as well chuck in forged pistons. A part from the cost there really isn't a downside, and seeing as new pistons means new rings and maybe a hone, your engine will potentially be in a better place anyway. Might not need forged pistons if you're not chasing big power, but its an easy win now if you decide you want more power later. my 2cRed 9N3 Polo GTI (sold)
