While I see your point, I don't think anyone could make a legitimate complaint seeing the only thing that is the same between the car I bought and that's there now is the chassis.

Anyone know where this bolt would have come from? It has a torx head and I found it in with about 4m^3 of topsoil underneath my front guard, slightly concerned it could be important ahah.

Well i assume so.... If it is a head bolt it is a stretch bolt so one use only. Hopefully they just lost it down there and gave up trying to find it.
I'll check when i am doing my timing chains in uni break.

I wouldn't worry about it.
If they put everything together with one missing bolt u would of had a leaky gasket my now, either milky coolant/oil or maybe even loss of compression in one cylinder (will cause crappy power).

saw a mk3 cursed with a broken window reg (or maybe just a hot day?), parked with the window open and an egg tray carton on the steering wheel to keep it cool.
