Lorenz mate did you say you were re-trimming your centre inserts on your doors? Are they the bits that are level with the door handles? If they are, show me how to do it because I want to make mine white to match my exterior

Now I need a spare stock seat rail to modify to fit this baby. Only going in for track use and the occassional hills thrash (which is pretty damn often!)

Don't laugh but one time I had ciggy ash flying back in my car, landed on my seat and burnt a little hole. I smelt smoke ... AGAIN... (you know what I mean) houso has a point tho.Originally posted by peedman View PostYou got to be kidding me, fire proof interior? Its got more to do about how the ember of a cigarette butt is not strong enough to ignite most things let alone fabric. A cigarette butt will not ignite petrol fumes even tho its temperature is above the ignition point of petrol!
Nice BABY Loernz.. They look comfy too.

Ah no worries. I just made the enquiry to see how much postage was and asked a few questions about the pedal set. I was going to go to the bank on Monday to make a deposit and probably make the order on Tuesday but I can wait a few days. If you want something I'll just ask them again and get them to calculate postage and get the total. Then I'll just order it, shouldn't take more than 10 days to post either.
seriously these smilies are whack...80,000km 1997 MK3 VR6 manual for sale - www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f23/80-000km-1997-manual-vr6-nsw-sydney-67658.html

Ok so I went to put the new lower door trim on today, all came off ok, bolted up nicely, looked wiked until I clipped it all back together.... The wiring for the power windows got caught on something and the plastic coating on a few of the wires came off, resulting in some bare wire contact and alot of fricken smoke, plastic melting and me coughing my guts up! NOT HAPPY JAN
I have tried to pull the wiring apart and seperating it to be safe, but its now too dark and appears to be a real pain in teh bum, so ill just sit here with my beer till tomorrow!
On a better note, went on a cruise today with the Adelaide VWW guys, great fun, car loves to be thrashed all the time and still goes really well for what it is! Few pics I took when we returned to Robins broken down, overheating MK1:

New brakes, pads, plugs, leads etc etc will be here this week yay! In dire need of some new brakes now

Big thanks to Robin again, I now have wheels

Need to get some new tread on them first, but we test fitted them before and they actually look really good. Could do with some spacers to get them out to the guards, but sit really well, just needs more slammage!
Wasnt looking at getting 17s really, but when these came up and for the price, I couldnt say no

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAH
EXCELLENT
good work, you'll find that tires for a 17' aren't all that expensive and might I say your lucky to find some rather decent wheels in our 4x100 stud pattern. what are they, Speedy wheels?
I'd agree with you on the spacers though, considering my wheels are they same width I'm guessing of 7 inch, 20mm seems enough just to space the rears out, you could put the fronts by 5 or 10mm but they're the front wheels I wouldn't really push it. Well I guess I'll soon find out anyway
Nice pick up, oh and Mickey, I'd say 17's are the best size for the 3', the fill the arches well and cost the same as 16's as I discovered the other day at the tire shop.

Yeah was rather hesitatant about putting 17s on the Golf, was pretty dead set about running 16s or even some nice wide 15s, but after fitting these I changed my mind!
I can get decent 17" tread at good prices, cheaper than 16" rubber, so works out to be a good thing! Off to get me some tyres tomorrow, under 100bucks a corner for some nice sticky rubber
Once my brakes get here and fitted along with my new seat and wheels, im almost ready to hit the track in a few weeks

wheels look nice mate. 16s have really awkward tyre sizes for golfs.. eg. 205/40/16 is $180. for the equivalent in 17s - 205/40/17 is $150. same tyre. no idea why
also, 17s fit perfectly in the wheel size scale for golfs.
mk1 = 15, mk2 = 16, mk3 = 17, mk4 = 18, mk5 = 19..
dunno bout mk6 though.. hehe 20s...

Completely agree with you on the wheel size scale mate, works so well!Originally posted by jayjay View Postwheels look nice mate. 16s have really awkward tyre sizes for golfs.. eg. 205/40/16 is $180. for the equivalent in 17s - 205/40/17 is $150. same tyre. no idea why

Now to decide what colour to get them powdercoated. Thinking a gunmetal grey maybe, will work well and contrast nicely to the lighter silver of the car...sigpic
