  • Awesome man! Those new shoes are dope, and in a dark grey primer/matte finish they'd be even better. How do the 17"s go for rubbing? AFAIK you haven't done any fender prep>?
    Now owns a golf. Stoked.

    • Cameo, if you get the tyre size right there's no rubbing issues I think around 205/40/17 is about right for 17x7? By 'right' i mean around stock rolling diameter. Chime in, Ray..

      • As they are, the wheels wont rub at all. They have a pretty low offset (ET40) so they will be fine under stock guards for now, but once I get spacers made up and bring them out to the guards some more (the way they should be!) I may need a slight guard roll/flare which wont be much of a problem I dont reckon The car will be dropped about another inch aswell as it sits to heigh on 17s as is, but I will know for sure once I get some new rubber put on them tomorrow and fit them all up (that was only one test fitted to the car when I went to pick them up)

A 205/40/17 is what they have on them now and about right I reckon. I wanna see what a 205/45 looks like aswell. A good 205/40 with a side wall protector will be JUST stretched on the 7" wide wheel. No buldging side walls for me thank you very much

            • Wheels look good Lorenz! The lip makes them look closer to 16" which I think suits the Mk3 more

              A little tongue-in-cheek with these tyres: http://www.wheel-whores.com/news/?p=41

              • haha yesss another 17'er!!! thats 3 afaik? Me, Pullstarter and Lorenz!

                Looks awesome mate!

If/when i get some of those coilovers, I think i might have to roll the guards at the front. I don't really understand the offset, but the wheels I have are 17x7 both front and back.

Once it is dropped, I'll be looking at adapters for the backs...

                • I think if/when I eventually get wheels, I might just have to settle for 17's so I might be on that list, too..

I reckon your offsets are +38, most wheel shops sell 17x7 +38ET rims for the 4x100 and 4x114.3 stud patterns.
Pwahhh now everyone's getting spacers too, let the games begin!

                    • I had a bit of a misshap tonight and a lovely little cuddly koala (fully bloody grown) decided it would be a great idea to wander out onto the road in front of my car as I came around the corner (I live in the hills). Luckily I managed to swerve out the way of most of it, only hitting its fat head on the bottom left of the front bar. If I was doing my usual blast through the corners like I normally do, my entire front bar would have made sweet love to the koala resulting in alot more damage. I limped home feeling pretty bad, hearing a koala head getting crushed by a car isnt the best of sounds TBH
End result was a broken reflector panel by the looks of it. Took it clean off, nowhere to be seen. No blood or damage to the bar thank god. Could have been ALOT worse.
So now....WTB: passengers side reflector panel please

On a better note, my lovely little stubby arial arrived from Tim at DubAddiction so I wacked that on to make me feel a bit better

                        • u got off pretty lightly mate!
On one of my trips back from sydney i collected a small kangaroo right in my VR6s numberplate. Youre right about the noise though. Its a pretty horrific crack.
I lost a reflector a grille and had to replace my bumper bar reinforcement. Amazing how tough those bumpers are. Mine was really bent but left it out in the sun for a day and it just popped right back into shape!

                          Glad u like the stubby

Just a great reason to go all-out weight-reduction. you lost one reflector panel so it's time to rip everything else useless out of your car!
