Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New battery purchased .
Just paid for some stupid rare Vento parts. That combined with new wheels and nations road trip (even though I kept $ tight) it's going to be a month of 2mins noodles if I plan to get the Vento rego'd by mid July.

    • Headed home to baby sit the family dog so thought I'd do some touches to the vento.
Slapped the battery out of the bora in (waiting for the new one to arrive), fired up straight away, up to temp and a quick brap down the rd.
Keen to get the rest of the 4-5yr old fuel out of it :/

First up was the window reg. thought this would be a 30min job like it was on Kirsts polo, how I was so wrong...
First was the door trim. Seems a window had been smashed at some stage (lots of glass in the door) and weather had been allowed to damage the cardboard/timber fibre. Fresh plastic clips were putting too much pressure on the trim. Finally got it off without damaging the desirable vento cards. figured I'd use the working rear from the golf, fitted up and plugged it in and got nothing. Thought it was something with the car as the rear passenger suddenly stopped working too.
Turns out the golf one was also dead since I last used it, so the good old cable tie and plastic tubing mod was done on the vento one.
Not sure what's wrong with the passenger side, but it's staying up,so just going to leave it for now
Waste of a arvo before I scored a thumping headache.

Plan for tomorrow is wipers in, rain tray on, bonnet on, control arm bushes and a quick wash.
If I have time and some help from the neighbours, put the golf in the shed (out of mums sight) and vento steps up to the carport
Hopefully get a quick alignment done on Monday after a surf, does look and drive ok ATM though

          • So r32 bushes in the control arms. Found out there was already some poly ones fitted, fronts were ok. Rears even had off centre holes, but passenger side was dead.

Replaced the sway bar links and ball joints too. Wow ball joints are a nightmare to remove without the proper tool or removing the spindle from the car.
Found the passenger side link was loose so hoping between that and the new control arm bush it stops the random clunk.

Tie rod ends look ok so left them, saving the strut tops and bearings til I get coilovers so hoping they will pass roady as is

                          • Cheers guys.
                            Not much happened today.
Tightened everything up, wheels on, played with the engine mounts as it doesn't seem to be sitting on the passenger side mount.

Bonnet got a wash in the 24hrs rain

Plenty of toe out and positive camber thanks to the new parts
