I had the same problem, dont directly put the puller onto the shoulder.
Clamp a pair of vice grips onto the adapter (behind the shoulder) use the back of the grips as your surface to pull against, if not try some wd40 too
I attempted it that way, albeit with locking pliers (all I had at the time).

The photo you got there is the exact way I'll be doing it.
I already have the bearing seperator shown in that picture, all I need is the pulling tool, which I hope to pick up from work when then come in

    Fun, fun, fun

    • Well Stiggy, it required ALOT of force to pull mine off haha, but it did come off
      This was my set-up,

(can you see the the very stupid mistake I made in the above piture?)

You were right though, I had play in the lock housing bearing and the ignition switch was FUBAR'd.
Much more solid to drive now and easy as starting!

Almost haha, the bar with the 'fork' like ends is upside down, the bolts slid off the sides as I touqued it up (the G clamp's stopping them in this picture)

              MUCH nicer to drive

Where'd you get it, gauges as well.

Our oil temp in the MFA is un reliable. It goes up and down with the cabin fan speed. I'd like to have a proper reading etc. Yours is the neatest I've seen without deleting the radio.

                  Cheers

We made the mounting plate ourselves from some thin aluminium, then just painted it with some VHT wrinkle paint.
Have a look back here, http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post601003

I have seen premade panels on ebay UK that claim to fit in the same location.
Rough search, mk2 golf gauge | eBay

I bought my gauge's (voltmetre, oil pressure) through Greg Roles (on here) as he's a supplier for 42 Draft Designs.

I don't think I have that probmlem with my MFA, sounds like a grounding issue?

                    • Just finished up a coupe days work replacing the oil cooler and its ancileries(coolant, oil/filter ect)... man you 1.8l 8v guys are lucky not having these things!
Those factory radiator pipe clamps can go to hell too!

Note the corrosion on the oil cooler outlet*

And the cause of all my bloodied and bruised hands (and oil leak)

A lot of respect for you mate for having the courage to tackle these issues on your own!

                            • Decided to copy Wade and Eric (to an extent) and replace the overflow bottle.

                              Old vs new

And now you can actually see the raspberry cordial G12

New top and bottom hoses too.

                              • I have a feeling you photo touched every pic of your car LOL, your old bottle doesn't look too bad and the new one is exceptionally white but it does bring up a fresh look of the engine bay.
