Aside from you dudes on here rocking the generosity like nothing else... I've just had a massive weekend filled with the cars I really love to work with, Skylines - at the Skyline Nationals in Shepparton VIC.

120+ at the show and shine, some great historic race cars - Peter Jackson DR30, Netcomm DR30, Gibson MotorSport Nissan Bluebird & Exa, John Player Special BMW and a Gemini from the same period. Followed by a Track day at Winton and dinner & preso the night after... anyway, probably boring to you lot...

I took the golf for a shakedown after spending the day getting the injector pump done and the ball joints and bushes in that Peter Jones donated.

There is a write up on the diesel pump!

I did over 1300ks without a hitch, aside from the noise... I had a roof basket on, that was off and ditched at my dads work within the first 150ks from the intense harmonic resonance that was happening in the whole car...

Then another problem, it didn't want any diesel, the gauge didn't move, well much anyway... the K's just kept ticking by, Stopped in Gundagai for my mate to top up his ute towing his Skyline and taped up the front 1/4 windows to stop some more noise, at least I could hear some of the radio... I still had 7/8ths of a tank...

Ended up getting from Orange to Shepparton on 3/4 of a tank, 650ks, by this stage I was afraid that the gauge must be wrong, but I fueled up the next morning and put in 28L - 4.3L/100 Same figures as originally quoted in the book.

Run home was fine, only misshap was avoiding a roo carcass I hit something hard, it's head which some birds had scattered across the road, I think the left hand suspension is really rooted now, I stopped a few times to check a vibration, the tyres and wheel nuts, but nothing seemed wrong. Time for a newer setup and then some mods to lift.

Bonus for the weekend, I scored about $40 in change donations at the show and shine, and picked up about $410 in donations towards Cancer Council from some friends etc. Our total is now over $1000!

While since an update, been flat out between meeting up with the Sydney lads and a few local guys at Mt Panorama in Bathurst, as well as ericcs and sports racer in Canberra - it was a pleasure guys, and thank you to Eric for hauling that gear all the way from QLD, and Paul for the hook up with Nick and Volkspares (although I didn't buy anything)... and the $10 donation

And of course to Dubstein for the struts and mirrors, they will go in very soon.

I've been working on a Show & Shine in Orange which is happening this weekend, It's primarily a fundraiser for a local woman who is suffering terminal breast cancer , and will be leaving behind a young family. But we're also pushing the ****box Golf there, running a Guessing Comp (stupid NSW raffle laws) and BBQ etc etc, It's slowly turning out to be bigger than we ever expected, we've only advertised properly for the last 6 weeks, and slowly managed to invite some really awesome cars - Ex summer nats champions, Door-slammer drag-cars, plenty of rods, and a heap of bikes... going to be a big Sunday...

      Few from Bathurst

Fundraising is plodding along... hopefully the weekend coming will boost our efforts greatly!

yeh, we ducked out there and I um'd and ahh'd about the alloy bullbar, but his prices were a bit unrealistic for the ****box even once haggled, he respected the $1000 budget and said "eh, just use some C channel!" and I dare not ask about that turbo'd diesel MK1.

the pure amount of cars he has out there is boggling... If I was a big vw boffin I'm sure I'd love to rescue one of anything in better condition!

That turbo'd diesel MK1 has been sitting there for years and years. I think Nick is more happy to show it than sell it. He's got a couple of 2 doors that I've got my eye on but first I need to convince the boss we need another Golf in the family.

Was good to catch up with you and put some faces to the names.

                  Cheers

                    Been ages since an update...

A few mates and I got in and organized a charity car-show for last weekend, 3 weeks of planning and a lot of nerves, and we managed to wrangle more than 90 entrants and over 100 cars showing up for the day, including Preeny's Dad with his Historic Top Fuel Dragster... was a great weekend raising some money for a local lady with terminal cancer and our $hitbox.

during the day we raised nearly $3000 in total for the various causes we had ear-tagged.

as for work on the Golf, I mucked around and got the rear struts in from Dubstien (BEST PACKAGING EVER!) and will try to get the fronts in tomorrow, rears are actually 10mm lower settled, but they're a nicer ride... going to use the ones that were in it as a guide for mods or upgraded equipment.

Hhaha, awesome, Jase reluctantly gave it to me, that Golf is sitting closer and closer to the scrap metal truck...

This time of year is crazy, but once the new year breaks we'll catch up, the old man and I are heading to Canberra mid January to get all our livery for the rally, so the car will look proper SBR spec soon.

Well, little to nothing over the new year, Golf still runs, still on track for the Rally...

I went to swap out the front struts but my strut top bearings are better than the ones in the others, so decided against it even though the shocks are much worse, didn't have the time or gear to muck around just swapping the tops out...

I'll look at something new or nearly new soon I think, we still need to work on getting it a few more inches higher.

My ute has priority at the moment, Blew a turbo last trip to Canberra and took the manifold with it because of heat stress, luckily that was the only other damage.

                            Time for some suggestions!

February and March we're looking to get the old girl lifted a few inches, bigger tires, and a few other mods to make it rally safe (ie sump guard)

Any suggestions for springs that might fit and be a bit taller, or cheap new struts as well?

The gear that has been donated is great for R&D to take places, but wondering if anyone has experience with other model or aftermarket springs and struts that might fit?

only mod to report is that I removed the under bonnet pad, believe it or not, the engine noise much quieter in the cabin on the road especially above 80kph.

Also going to chase spare radiator hoses etc to take with us on the journey. New or VGC 2nd handies. Current ones are in top nick, I don't see them being a problem, but spares are good.

I seem to remember something about Porsche 924 rear springs and BMW E30 front springs? From the thread on "The Bucket" years ago. Was on Vortex I think. Don't quote me.

The first set of Lovell springs I got years ago raised the height of my MK1 by a couple of inches all round. When I complained they told me it reset the ride height back to standard - crap - they just stuffed up.

You could always contact them and ask for the Golf springs that they did wrong 30 years ago. I'm sure they still remember me.
