I believe that the top right bushings fit inside the factory engine mount bushings to stiffen them up...

            Damn you

I actually came on this forum to talk about the MK1 that I purchased for the ****box rally.. but noooo you had to get here first.

We picked up a MK1 1.6 5 door hatch nice and cheap the other week, with a bunch of spares, they are fun little cars.
Might have to make a thread as well

well, an epic day at the workshop.

I started with the diesel pump, and for those wondering yes took loads of pics of the process, but they can wait until my weekend is over (more on that later)

Ok, so it all went slowly but smoothly, making sure to keep things clean and tidy, pull things off in order, record the process, and put it all back properly... I had also replaced the fuel feed and return lines and managed to get a new filter that was not full of rust and water.

The only real trouble was trying to get the shaft back in the new sleeve and that's where the bother began, I had to remove the shaft in order to lightly linish it due to quite a few burs and some bad notches, and would not seat properly in the new sleeve.

I vaso'd the o'ring lightly and it popped back in happily, and returned the sprung fuel shaft to the pump, primed it all up and, and, it revved off it's head, so I stopped the engine quickly. It took about another 1/2 hour to pull it all apart again, work out that we hadn't put the shaft in the wrong sequence, that it was all A-OK, until I referenced a picture I took earlier, the small cup on the retaining spring for the fuel supply lever, was back to front.

That's all it was, a small oversight... and it took 1.5hrs of mucking around in total to find the problem and quickly fix it.

After that it ran perfectly again.

BIG Problem was my mechanic was due to close, luckily one of his senior apprentices had spent the day at TAFE and was headed back to the workshop to fiddle with his car, so helped me out getting the Wishbones out, new rubbers and ball joints in without a hassle.

Tomorrow I'm going on a 7.5hr Shakedown... if anyone is interested, I'll be in SHEPPARTON in Victoria for the Skyline Nationals this weekend, the golf will be in the show n shine hopefully raising a few dollars towards our cause. I'll be there from tomorrow arvo till Monday morning.

Feel free to drop by and say g'day.

You guys should carry complementary spare parts.

Wishbones are reversible if you've got bolt in ball joints.

A pair of axles with good CVs might come in handy

Hoses, gaffa tape, cable ties etc, etc.

Reach out to Geoff Hale and ask what the most important spares are to carry.

Baahh spare parts are for the weak.. last 2 years we have just taken duct tape and cable ties haha

Although the first year we did lose a clutch, so might throw a spare one in that came with the car.

More than 1350km without a hitch since Friday! My hearing is wrecked from all of the road, wind and diesel noise, but other than that, all was well - The trip down I used 4.3L/100km, but the next tank of diesel went really quick for some reason (about 6.5L/100), probably poor fuel, I swapped to something else and it's on track for good figures again.

I avoided a roo carcass on the drive home, but in doing so ran over its head which had been torn off by crows, I think I put something out or threw a wheel weight, as it was a bit odd after that, but tyres were fine, and it was pretty good regardless, but hopefully soon I'll get the suspension from Dubstien in and an alignment done.

very happy with the drive down and back, aside from not being able to hear myself think.

SO MANY PEOPLE GAWK at you... thumbs up from dudes, old guys shaking their heads, chicks with massive grins and little waves, bus loads of people staring... never knew it was such a celebrity thing to drive a MK1.

if you haven't organized to freight the suspension down from brisbane, i may be heading down to canberra next week, so can go inland and drop it off. i just can't confirm it for a few days!
                        cheers

I think he's tee'd it up to be dropped at a depo in town.

Shoot him a PM, he was trying to send it out today.

My little bro is in Canberra, so perhaps you can meet him somewhere.

                          Thanks heaps
