yesterday was small things... small annoying things... Dad drove it back into town ready for blue slip, the port windows fell out again...

Tried to glue them up with the rear view type 2 part glue, it failed on all accounts, I dunno what it is with the metal and glass combination, but who knows how the got it to work 40 years ago...

So some gaffa tape and some wedges will get it thru rego.

And the seats are in... Dad is 6ft, and I'm about 6'2" and the bolts on the rails clashed, so we decided to shave them down a bit... well I did 7 of the 8 bolts... dad did 1... and went too far so we couldnt tighten it up, and in his attempts to tighten it, cross threaded it too...

so he spent the next 2 hrs trying to find a matching bolt, and a matching thread die to clean up his mess...

    *Sigh* parents hey?

But can't complain too much, because our washer bottle was leaky and the pump was busted, so he took the bag and pump off our old '76 civic wagon paddock basher and it works!

Off for a blueslip (RWC) and rego on tuesday!

          We have rego!

and a few small things to sort - a ball joint that is in need of replacing, and the seal on the throttle shaft of the injector pump needs doing, and it was suggested we did the CV boots etc as well, but none of those things really were affecting the RWC... all that is quite hard when it's 150 clicks from the un-rego'd car to a reliable mechanic, living in a small rural town does have its benefits.

          sorry for potato spec

I have taken delivery from the old man to sort out some small things...

Replaced the 4 inch speakers with fresh ones today, and threw in a LED strip light attached to the interior light to help us with those late night back of 'effing-no-where we need the map moments, I can honestly say the strip light is brighter than the headlights.

Wire in a couple of relays so the power for the lights comes straight from the battery, not via the low beam/high beam switch. Makes a massive difference.

Always great when your local deisel place has pump parts in stock!
Gotta sort a leak on the throttle shaft...

Also, trying to chase ball joints, Tooleys don't have them in stock - anyone have suggestions?

What size ball joints do you need, 15 or 17mm? I might have a couple here.

17mm I'm pretty sure, also tried Fermans in Sydney and my local guy in on to it too.

if you have some, that would be awesome. Thanks

I've got a pair here. PM your address details and I'll post them out later today.

I'm a bit short on the correct 7mm bolts so just drill the holes to 8mm and use high tensile M8 bolts.

                          Anything else you're after?

was going to try, my Mechanic has given me some time in his workshop, so I'll have everything I need and help if it goes pear-shaped.

It was a day of confusion...

I took pics, made phone calls, sent messages...

I'd been given some wishbones with balljoints from MK1@4Motion, and mine needed replacing as the LH side was buggered, Thought I'd do both, as my little bro had finally managed to get them up to me from the ACT... my old man got them and measured the ball joints, telling me they were 17-18mm - perfect, from a Diesel!

Took out the lower RH to start with, and compared the ball joints, WAT!? they're like 2mm different, crap! I must have 15mm for some reason...

TXT Preeny, who is adamant that they diesels should have 17mm...

Do some more digging remembering some paperwork that came with the car...

AHUH! the Left LCA & Steering rack were replaced after a tow in bingle in 2005... and it was suggested that the struts also be replaced both sides, perhaps that's why...

I put it all back together and a while later Preeny drops by with a 15mm ball joint in wishbone, I hop to it and pull out the other side which is the actual problem, yep ball joint rooted.

WHAT! This side is bigger than the one Preeny dropped in!? Break out the cheap ass verniers - Preeny did indeed drop off 15mm ball joints, mine are lo-and-behold, actually 17mm OD, and the ones that MK1@4Motion supplied are nearly 19mm...

Luckily, after working out all of this the LCA's from MK1@ have already had the original ball joints removed, and replaced with bolt in ones. Peter Jones has sent me some 17mm ball joints, so I'll just swap them over and put in the updated LCAS. and have the original ones as spares.

                                PHEW!
