Ok so after a lazy day i decided after lunch I may as well go and fit all the new polycarbonate windows, besides they were specifically made for the mk1 golf so how hard can it be..............................WRONG, stupid windows are just a fraction big everywhere so after pulling everything apart i spent most of the day cutting down the wndows to fit amongst obligatory swearing, dummy spitting and blood letting (unfortunately mine!) So after 6 hours of what should have been a 2 hour job i've done half a car!

    The golf before

    begin the strip down

now for those interested some actual weights
    Rear quarter window (glass)

    Rear quarter window Plexi

    Back door glass

so by replacing just the side glass (I have the rear hatch glass also) we are looking at removing a total weight of 13.082kg and replacing it with 6.738kg, so a total weight saving of 6.344kg and probably another 5 kg when i replace the rear hatch glass.

      First quarter glass installed

other side rear quarter in polycarbonate, hard to spot the difference until you tap on it

The golf at the end of play, called by the missus under supposed bad light rules

I could have saved still further more weight by opting out on the air vent sliders but i figured it would be way too hot without some air in the cab. Stay tuned for the next update when i get around to doing the other side and the rear hatch and some carbon fibre panels should be here by then.

Having a bit of a poke I can't see what engine management you had planned on using?

That headwork is fantastic, and wish I had the skill to knock up ITB manifold set up myself!

Hey Mik, running Haltech as I am familiar with tuning it and it gives me multiple map options so I can dial the car in depending on course, gearing, fuel and cam timing etc
