I've seen it done before also but at the end of the day it's a mk1 not a porker mk4 so doesn't really need it imo.

A guy I know down my way has an entire Ibiza firewall fitted into a mk1, running the 2L with factory efi, a/c, dash and i'm pretty certain he runs the ibiza power steer.

            • Well im un-certain about power steering at this moment, im a bit short on cash.
I think today should be the last day of sanding and tomorrow i should be spraying. i already have the paint but a friend asked my to install his sound system today so i dont have time to work on my car.

I have painted the dizzy and i think it looks pretty good.
The bay is also just about done.
The pulleys have been sprayed too.
The Box is soon going to have a spray and just other little bits i can find as well.
I'm going to try and hide as much wires as i can, and maybe some of the relays as well.

And this pic just because i can. For some reason i seem to love the rear of mark 1's

Lastly, this is just to help me with my decicion on the rims.

How does your tail-light manage to hang crooked?

                    • hahaha yeah i thought no one would notice the tail light, they are currently un bolted and just sitting there, most of my eletricals are un done as i want to change alot off the wires to have one continous colour.

the previous owner must have run 3210439048230 differnt wires and its hard to follow them. so hence why the tail light is hanging crooked, just needs to be bolted
BTW im going to clean the bay out and it looks like a good day to spray it, so im getting to work.

                      • Skipped school and i thought I'd just work on the golf today haha. Was a long day and hard too, but i got the primer on and i think it came out very nice!

not too much words today, just pics:

My plan here is to not have any wires running on this side and make it as neat as possible. Im unsure if it is noticable, but this side had a lot of hols in it. I covered them up and now it is just two left. ( i have plugs for them).

                          • nah it was, White Knight primer, not sure what exactly.

Started painting orange today, and it came out VERY good, but shortly the rain came as well. Pretty much stopped in my tracks and have to finish it tmoro. Should i spray gloss over it as well so that my paint doesnt chip as easy? BTW im using Squirts paint ( if that matters)

                            • Glad to report back that the engine bay is done. The rain has given me many set backs, and me having to constantly pull the car in and out of the car port. The result is pretty good and i think the colour is pretty exact as well. Although im sure once i un-tape everything that the little problems will show them selves.

Tomorrow i will try to spray the gearbox as i got this pretty cool chrome looking paint and shall see how that goes. It all happened pretty quick really and i think the engine will be going in quite soon. Only problem i have left really, is adjusting the dizzy and getting an external fuel pump.

EDIT: just before anyone says that its not painted at the bottom, these pics were taken before the last coat on the bottom had been put on.

                              • Why don't you try and polish out the gearbox? iv seen some people do it on this forum. ( alex g)

The engine bay looks mint. You going to polish it after?

                                Good stuff,

                                Keep it up.
