nah they are my old mk1 driveshafts and matched up with a pair of mk3 inner cv's. i had to get the driveshafts machined to get the cv's to fit. Pete Jones suggests when i got them machined that the bearings might have not been packed together properly, hence the stifness.
Ill have to get them checked out, guess i wont be making tmoro, although i think in the next hour or two (after nandos haha) the engine might be started. atleast some good news.
The last steps are here, can anyone please tell me where some of these hoses go. I think that i dont need a few of them due to it being from a mk3 but i still dont have a clue for some of them??
Im not susre if they are in the correct place, and some of them i dotn know where to put them in at all.
Does this have to be sealed off or how do i go about it?
Hi guys, seems i have been fiddling with the fuel pump and i came to a hold. Im pretty sure it needs something of a regulator of some sort or somthing or other. Im unsure on how to wire it. What iv done is run a fuel hose into the front of the fuel pump, then have two split up after that, one going to the carby and one returning to the tank. Although the only way to wire the external fuel pump would be to the accessories, meaning everytime i turned the egnition the fuel pump would start sending fuel. And im sure thats not how its done.
What is the proper way to set it up, and how do i regulate the fuel accordign to fuel/air ratio and acceleration etc?? (unsure how to explain it).
Well my 2 dont, its either off on start.
I had mine wired to a switch and i turned it on/off manually. but got sick of doing that, so i wired it to coil.
ANd what pump did you get? webers like around 3.5psi from what ive read and a high volume pump.
yeah dude, im very happy with it. Although id be happy with it when its moving
Im just waiting on the CV joints to return fromt he mechanic and put them on. As well as sort out the hosing and the fuel pump.
I have no idea what the fuel pump it to be honest. I have been informed it doesnt matter at all what the pump is, so yeah. Even though say i wire it to the coil which should be fine. How do i regulate the fuel consumption though? Wouldnt it will flood the carbi if the fuel just keeps going and going in? im unsure of how to regulate it..
THats what the fuel return is for.. once the float bowl is full, the fuel should go back out the return line and back into the tank.
I can tell you have a weber on the engine, they are more suited to a low psi high volume type pump. i ahd a cheap pump and it ruined my needle and seat cause the psi was like 7-9psi.
So i dont need to regulate anything? the the carbi stops taking fuel when its full and sends it back? thats a relief then.
I do have a return pipe/hose, ill take a pic tmoro and show you, perhaps it could be done better. Ill also try get some more details on the fuel pump, although i dont think i will be able to. As soon as the engine is running, im going to put on the bumper bars, rims, duckbill etc. Hopefully should look very nice. Thats all im waiting for, the end result hehehee as it has come a long way from its purchase and i just want to see the final product!
If you are only running about 3-6psi you won't need a return.. However it's still a good idea.
Connected to the float is a needle. This acts like a valve. As the fuel volume drops in the float bowl, the float drops and lifts the needle. This allows fuel into the bowl, which raises the float and it shuts off again. It's a little more complicated than that, but for the purpose of this exercise, that's what happens.
-It's kinda like a water trough with a float and valve, if you've ever seen one..
Note, that i have only run those wires like that to test the pump only. Im working on how to arrange everything. Unfortunately i cant turn the engine on to test the carbi and fuel pump as im done doen with the water hoses yet, i have no idea what to block off and i have also removed the heater/fan thingo so i have to circulate the water somehow without the cooler.
So i was walking around the car this morning and realised it had alot of little things done to it that i never take notice of. Here they are, some might not be the best, but im sure alot of time went into them.
The door panels for starter have flames on them. Not my cup of tea but still would have been time consuming.
The dash is also MK2 and completely un cracked which im in love with.
The roof has also been done and is veeery nice.
Aftermarket fuel cap
Bee sting antenna, i dont really like it.
The golf has also been fitted with central locking, hence the door handles having no key holes and being shaved. Im guessing these are quite hard to find?
