    • Make the return line smaller George and put it the other side of the filter, nearer the carby.

If you leave the line big and where it is the fuel will take the path of least resistance and return to the tank without going to the carby.

      Otherwise looking good mate.

        • They're cheap. VW stock 'em. Very common replacement item.

Usually called dipstick tube or funnel.

Shop over 10,000 VW & Audi parts in stock for same-day shipment. Use our extensive online catalog to find the OEM and Genuine parts you need fast.

Your dipstick itself is broken too. It should have a loop for a handle on the end of it.

          • Thanks for that, i was actually worried thinking its a hard bit to find. but as iv learned

VW use the alot of the same fitting parts instead of producing new parts for every new

new model that comes out. very smart in-deed.

Thanks pete ill have a look into it.

                • Finally got the got the CV joints back a few days ago and today my dad and i had soem time to put them in. Its been a long time since all four wheels have been on the ground and it was very nice to see it in the sun once again. I even put the duck bill spoiler for a bit of motivation hehe

                  Things left to do are:
                  Sort out fuel pump.
Sort out a few left over pipes.
Work out the dizzy retard or advance and the point of the pistons, timing etc ( i have no idea what the proper term for that is called).
also probably a service and tune it and time it all so its running smooth and she's done.

She'll soon be starting i hope.

                  • FINALLY GOT IT STARTED TODAY!! i didnt think we would start it today as it was very late and my old man i thought why not have a go at it. Arranged the dizzy etc and it started. I went over the moon!!!! There seemed to be some noise though, like a ticking noise of somesort which ill have to look into tmoro or the next day.

Im quite suprised as it started within the second crank of the engine, i thought it would be a few more turns.

Couldnt have it run for too long as i still dont have the fuel pump running properly, and i just injected some petrol into the carby to last a minute or so at a time. also got a relay today and will be tackling the wiring problem of the fuel pump tmoro, maybe hiding the f/p under the car somewhere.

Im extemely happy and it feels like this whole thing just payed off!! sounds great too!

                      • Nice work man. Ticking noise is probably hydraulic tappets. they need to bleed up as the motor has been sitting around for a while. Just run it for 20 minutes and give it a couple of revs and noise should go away.

                        • So the noise should dissapear after a good run? thats good to hear.
Spent today looking at how to wire the fuel pump etc so thats almost done.

The question of today would be the gears. I can only select 1st, so obviously i need to do something. Iv been told it can be purchased over the net, but what exactly do i need for the 5 speed change? Or what can do i do to make the gears go in etc. What is the exact thing i need. Is it easier bought, or am i able to make it myself (slight mods etc).??

                          • So i kept thinking the fuel pump SHOULD be working and not flooding constantly. I felt like the biggest D***head when i realised i had put the fule line in the wrong hole to the carby hahahaha. I guess it comes to prove dont do things when its late and you're tired! All is good now and my problems with the carby are now fixed !!!!! started up the car today and let it run. Im very excited for the week to come n get it going.

Also, thanks to Ian (16v80) i got this mad picture of what id like the orange beast to look like!
                            Looks great IMO
