Well it is running good, but still takes a bit of fuel. im not sure if thats because im missing the 5th gear, or the engine is just old or the carbi isnt tuned properly. i know that its not running 100% thats for sure.

I understand that it doesnt matter on a 1.6(not really) ,so iv been talkign to Golf Loon as sometime this week when i gather the money i shall be buying a 1.8 to mate with a 5speed. Ill be running the same carby and maybe a new cam later next month. im really excited about getting a new engine, if i still have some left over $$$ i might get a new exhaust to go with it.

As for painting the mirrors, i have bought new end caps for my bumpers, and i have been paint crazy today as iv sprayed the bars etc. so ill see how i go later on. IT FINALY HAS A BACK BUMPER!!! hahaha pics later im going to maccas now

I got my old bumper straightened quite well and thought its time to go back on. i know some will not like the black bars, but i have seen pics of it done before and i think it looks quite nice.

plus its different! i also went to a dude in thomas town and got some end caps that was very hard to find and this guy had stacks of them!!

      both being preped.

      sprayed.

While removing the sound system, i thought id have a closer look at where the bolts go to hold the back bumper. its quite hard to see the pic as the wires, but those holes need some ATTENTION. so ill have a look at that tmoro morning.

I was still having this CRAZE to spray things, so i thought id see what it looks like if i tinted the rear tail lights hahahaha!

Ill leave them on for a little bit, but im getting new lights after im done with the engine, which shouldnt be too long.

          a bit of an update.

i got the back bumper on quite nicely, and i think it looks pretyy good.

spent most of the day with my dad trying to get the "welsch" plug/cap (or however you spell it) but we had no luck. It has a hole in it and water keeps leaking out. its extremely hard to take this one out, must have used strong glue!!!

does anyone have any tips on how to get this off, coz if i dont do it this week i wont be attending dubfest

                Looks mint bro.

But, i think your car is a GLS.

I got a GLS badge somewhere in the garage...let me know if you want it.

                  what makes you say that?

I infact think it's a 76. By the looks of it, he has a 'swallowtail' bonnet, which would indicate that it's a 76 aussie 'built' LS.

George what year is your car?

As was the case with my 76 2 door.

Not all 76'ers/LS's had the swallowtail rear panel, but most that I've seen had the bonnet and a few other features. Being aussie built cars (the LS's) we got a few odds and ends in terms of swallowtail features.

Car is looking good. chrome bumpers suck anyway. dare to be different.

With the welshplug, bang one side of the dished bit with a solid old screwdriver and a hammer and it will either turn, or make a hole in it. then lever it out. they shouldnt have glue, just whack em in with compression.

The problem is, that all day earlier my dad and i tried hitting it out. we have tried almost everything we can think of. have made a hole already and still isnt going anywhere, have even tried to grab it pliers and pull it from where the hole is, but still getting no where.

will put more effort into it tmoro and hopefully ill get it going. im glad you like the black bumpers, i thought it looked quite nice.

OOH and boys, its a LS, 76 hahaha i still cant tell the differnce between swallowtail, even though its been explained heaps.
thanks for the good comments. this project is no where near finished yet.

Your car isn't a swallowtail George, see below image the main item is the rear panel, note yours is straight and doesnt have the second dip.

Also for Gordon(16v_kid) the Aussie cars are kind of all over the place. I had a march build 76 LS that was a swallowtail. My current yellow mk1 is a 09/76 but has a swallowtail bonnet, my blue car which is a 10/76 and doesn't have the swallowtail bonnet. I don't even think we got GLS cars in 76?

Anyway, car is looking good mate, keep up the good work!
