Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

High sustained rev's, engine runs hot, trying to suck more in?
I'd go the injection / physical clean route personally.....2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

Wondering about the design of CCV separators in various models. I read on Mann and Hummel's web site I think about how they do OEM design of CCV separators that are integrated into plastic rocker covers for VW.
So I was wondering if older models without such integrated CCV separators are more of problem for gunking than newer models.2015 Polo Comfortline 6M + Driving Comfort Package

The oil separation has improved in line with compression and power output, as it should. Higher compression, higher mean effective pressure per explosion, more blowby, more crankcase pressure. I'd reckon they are all pretty similar, it's just the 1.9 has been round longer, more higher milage units out there, more showing sludge problems. The good news for you is "TDI club" has plenty on info on using Vag Com to diminish the EGR in the 1.9 to next to nothing, solving the sludge problem. Not so as yet for the 2.0. Go look at their site mate!2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

I ask cause it does seem like the easiest part to get to.
or is it possible for the intake manifold to be clean and all the other pipes and stuff dirty?

Mate, if I had your engine, I'd Vag com down the EGR, and keep an eye on things. You'll still get stock levels of oil vapor going through the engine, but little to no exhaust to mix with it to form the sludge. In short, probably no need for a Provent. Search on TDI club, lots of info on this, how to etc etc.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

"race pipe" from Allard, EGR and flap delete, but will throw an error light because of reduced EGR flow. A sexy item all the same.

A link to turning down the 1.9 using vag com..... section 7h. Lots of power up tips for you 1.9 guys in the FAQ too.

I also have read about an "intercooler filter" in the 1.9, and this can block up and become a restriction. Something else to investigate little oilers! May be a US only thing.Last edited by Greg Roles; 05-04-2009, 11:08 AM.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

cheers cog.
i've seen some literature on turning down egr with vag com- that wouldnt forfeit any of the "runaway safetys" of the engine, would it? it sorta makes sense that it might.
also, seeing as egr assists in the warming up process, would this also be forfeited? or is that just if you block off egr completely?
as for the intercooler filter- is that what countless mk4 tdi'ers refer to as the "snow screen"?

If you have chipped ECU for more power and than reduce EGR you will increase EGT, which could harm you turbo.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

hmmm. im gonna throw the towel in early and say im going to be leaving egr alone- sure all the guys on the club are doing it, etc etc, but i'll endure intake sludge if it means keeping egr's helpful little functions in place.

We have had real problems down here, mainly with the Mitsubishi Tritons clogging up very badly.
Wynns down here have got hold of some kits from Europe called Exhaust Gas Recirculation 3, part no. 10500, which is a can of high pressure cleaner and a hose with 3 nozzles that you put into the intake and run at 2000 RPM. It does the job nicely apparently. I am yet to do one myself but have bought 6 kits. It vis a job that should be done at every 15000 kms and the workshops down here are having great results with them.
As soon as I can do a Golf here I will andd report on it.

My only concern would be a diesel with the DPF, as the ash from the oil is basically what clogs them up. I can't see a german ceramic carbide platinum canister being inexpensive.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |
