  • Are you manual or DSG preeman?
I've heard the stage 1 tune takes it up to around 221kw and as we don't have the AWD of the Golf R and the Roc is a bit lighter then I reckon if you do upgrade then make sure you get the DSG tune. I've had some prices for a tune at $750 + DSG tune at $750ish aswell. Not sure what the APR tune offers for $1200-$1500?

    • At this stage I am stopping all the work on the car.

I am not sure if you guys have seen the story on Drive.com.au about VW and power loss on cars?

I have had that happen to me three times since I have had the car, asked service to look at it twice and no fault found. The latest incident was about two months ago and nearly resulted in an accident. I expected to have power to clear cars next to me while in a lane that was quickly ending due to a parked car! Instead, no power while the foot is on the pedal, it did kick in later resulting in panic all around. Not a good moment.

I am due back to service this Thursday, unless they can find the fault and fix it, I don't want to spend any money on the car.

      My faults so far are:

      * Driver side window not going down sometimes
(Now the switch clips are broken by service while they tried to find faults)
Being replaced Friday - They have replaced this before with no fix

      * Passenger side window does not go up sometimes
(Comes back down sometimes, it has now ripped through the rubber grove it is meant to be running in)
      Being replaced Thursday

      * Driver side door armrest as a big dent from where I keep my 5 Kilo worth of arm resting weight
(Come on you expect this stuff to be long lasting for like 10 years!)
      Being replaced Thursday

      * Driver side door seal is pealing from the body
(Spotted Yellow powder near R plating on the door base, wondered what it was, it was dried glue that falling away)
      Being reviewed on Thursday

      * Rough Idle
(For the last month or so every-now and then the car revs slightly up and down, never used to)

      * Clunky gear changes
(Some times in Drive for some unknown reason, it seems like the rev's on the shift don't match and you can feel the car jerk as it clicks into gear)

      * Power Loss - No response
      To be reviewed

I bought my car on 30th December 2011 and have done just over 41,000Ks in it. It is my daily drive for work as I am always driving around Sydney for customer meetings.

      • oh crikey! I've had some issues with the windows going back down when they are supposed to be closing.
I only get the rough idle when the DSG is in manual mode, in Drive mode it just idles quietly.
The power loss is a massive concern, please keep us updated with the developments on all those issues.

        • Will keep everyone update.
I am just hoping they do something about it, instead of just saying no fault found like the last two instances.

With your windows, check if the rubber guides/groves in the little panel that has the side mirrors are still straight. If that rubber is ripped it will catch the window as it goes up, get stuck and the window will go back down. Mine are now completely ripped.

Stage 1 tunes all relate to approx 190 kw at the wheels... and while a DSG tune will certainly improve how it changes etc it isnt a necessity for Stage 1 or even Stage 2+ be it in a Scirocco or Golf R. It certainly wont improve traction...
Mine has the APR stage 1 tune and has had it for 12 months now... the tune is fantastic... well worth the money.

Not good to hear of your problems... the majority of us on here have had little if any issues...

For a bit of clarity on the "Power loss" issues mentioned in Drive and many other publications... the one that is making all the headlines is a manual diesel Golf, not sure but I think it was a Mk5... while the ones from overseas have been with DSG gearboxes they also have been diesels and they also result in an engine light coming on and the car going into limp home mode....which would make it easy for VW to track the problem...

I hope you get the problem sorted... I have experienced that problem before but in a different manufacturers Diesel wagon with dsg and it certainly gets your attention...

            • Yeah I had that issue with my mkv gt tdi...cardon filter kept clogging up and sending it into limpola mode...vw told us ur not driving it properly. ..long story short after repeated issues and involving the ceo of vw they swapped it for a mkvi tsi...they never did solve the issue.

                • The ride quality is about the same, I think there is only about 9mm drop in Side wall to the road.

                  235*40 to 255*30

I haven't really noticed it too much, I do think that my tyres might be softer as they are rated high for comfort on the Michelin website.

                  • Hey Andych,

Agreed that it is a different issue, I am just at a stage I can't accept a no fault found any more.

They did that that no fault found twice with my windows and now twice with my DSG/Power issue.

The last time it happened, it really did shake my confidence and really think if it will get me injured or worse.

Reading the story made me realise that my issue is not just an annoyance, it really needs more attention then that.

The problem here also is that I expect this to be a sports car and I drive it as such. If I wanted a softly softly driven car I would have gotten an Up

                      • Since we're on the topic of tunes( about 6posts ago) anyone here done REVo with VWVillage Kensington?
Any feedback on them? They're the closest to where I live though many friends driving Golf r32 and gti are telling me to go GIAC at exoticars...I just wanna go stage 1...
I've gone through so many forum posts etc but they're all fanboy apr vs everyone threads.

So specifically...anyone has either Revo at VWV or Giac at Exoticars (Sydney) gimme some feedback?
                        Thanks guys and gals.

                        • Scirocco Suspension

                          Hey Guys,

So I know there are a few threads around on suspension however looking for some feedback.

Have been toying with the idea of lowering the scirocco, was originally ordering KW DDC coilovers however have, for the time being decided to spend that money elsewhere.

So am looking at spring replacements for the moment.

The Eibach springs have a height of 365mm front and 369mm rear from centre of wheel to middle of guard. Which, after measuring will actually raise my rocco 4-5mm *sad face*

Who has lowered their rocco with just springs? what did you get? how much lower did you achieve?

                          Thanks heaps!

                              • Ummm no.. the Eibach Pro-kit will lower your car around 15 to 20 mm overall.... Mine has them fitted and I am extremely happy with them.
The H&R springs go a bit lower but are apparently much firmer... ride quality etc is very much subjective, however I can honestly say that my Roc rides better with the Eibach setup than it did on the OEM springs.
There are plenty of pics of my car in here for you to gauge how it looks.. with the current wheel / tyre combo the rear looks a little high but that is just down to the different tyre sizes front to rear.
