I`m not keen on a local aftermarket solution that wont be tailored to the engine.
I rang QPENG the other night and spoke to Ben Leech in the UK. He can build me a loom and ecu exactly tailored to any spec provided I use all VW parts and give him the part numbers! As mine is a carby car, the loom would include all the fuel pump relay and wiring and have minimal splicing into the loom. They even have outputs to plug into the sensor wires in the car harness and work the gauges in the original cluster. It is powered by the old coil wires in the loom.
I`m quite liking this idea as the wiring in the Rocco has been lovingly redone and it all works perfectly. I`d like to keep it that way.
Anyone got any bad or good points about a QPENG setup?
They also offered free software upgrade if I change to a K04 and bigger injectors provided I use vw parts.
It worked out at about $2000 plus shipping and customs.Last edited by Golf Loon; 08-03-2008, 05:40 PM.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Nice one R1 Crasher.
I also owned a Storm in the UK and I rate the Scirocco as a better drivers car than the Golf.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Modifying a std loom wouldn't be that bad but Ben makes good stuff IMO. What about having him ship in a couple of packages to minimise duty?

Just been measuring up the Scirocco engine bay.
The raintray will have to go, which will give the turbo and manifold more room.
If I remove the raintray I reckon I can get the brake booster and master cylinder, probably SEAT Ibiza ones in front of the driver. Then i can loose the vague and ugly linkage bar which takes up loads of room.
Also the previous owner has bought a brand new and massive radiator, but mounted it back too far. I can move it an inch or more forward using factory boltholes and give more room for the intake. Even if I move the radiator forward, I will still have heaps of room in front of it for a massive intercooler, without cutting up the front of the car.
I`m excited....sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Loon, I don't know where you find the time.
This is a pretty fast moving project. Will be could to see it done.
As far as ECU's. I'd just throw a Microtech LT8X at it.
Far cheaper, easy install & by far more tunable on every level. Especially if you upgrade stuff later on.
You'd get out of it for less than $1600 tuned if you fit it yourself. Probably get a trade discount on the ECU too.
Also if your chasing an intercooler, I'd try & find one out of a Mitsubishi Evo3 or a Galant VR4. Will cost no more than $200 & are a very efficient intercooler will bugger all pressure drop, good size inlet & outlet's & are also fairly compact. Will easily fit in the front of a mk1 if you move the rad. back an 1".
Will easily support 400+hp.

I have had a couple of microtech cars and I hate the wasted fuel and crappy cold start system. The rocco is a nice car, I just wanna be able to turn the key and drive it. Not often, but FAST!
Head Bolts are torqued now, Timing belt is on and diesel side mount.
Have a couple of issues to sort out with the oil return to the sump and the different fittings on the G4 turbo and the AEB block.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

That's fair enough.
You really have to tune it yourself as they normally load a crappy cold start & cruise setting, but they normally get the full load setting's pretty good.
Funny about that!
Once there right, they can be pretty good though.
