Not for the faint hearted tho as it involves disassembling your unit and soldering new USB/AUX cables to the back of the PCB. Also this doesn't double the number of ports you can use, as its merely a piggy back off the front facing ports ie DONT PLUG IN TWO DEVICES AT ONCE as you risk borking up your headunit as well as whatever's plugged in.

Link for the USB mod is here : https://www.drive2.ru/l/468837806471380994/

Link for a teardown and other modding info (like where to pull line level audio from the unit )is here https://w3bsit3-dns.com/forum/index....=799958&st=720

And to think this all started out with looking for an online copy of the manual

This is cool! I'm curious - were you able to tell what models of cars these head units were originally designed for? I got curious and had a look through VW China's website - 车型总览 - so many weird, last-gen cars... I guess they must sell some of these models in Russia as well?

Hi Guys, lots of good info here.

I am about to purchase one of these units for my mk6 golf. I was wondering if anyone has:

        a) confirmation of Bluetooth connectivity working for phone calls and audio?
        b) Retrofit an OEM mic in the OEM location (pictured below), if so how does it connect to the RCD330?
        -

I guess it is worth asking, is an external mic even required to make good quality phone calls with this unit?

            a) These units have a built in bluetooth module that handles both phone audio and music streaming.

b)Such a retrofit would involve taking the Unit apart and soldering a new microphone onto the logic board. While i cant personally attest to the quality of the mic as i dont have an unit installed yet, retro fitting one in the way you're suggesting would be complicated process that may or may not result in improved call quality. Imho not even remotely worth it

            All Units support:
            -Bluetooth Calling & Audio Playback
            -USB Playback
            -SD Card Playback
            -Aux Audio Input
            -Fader and EQ settings
            -Composite based Reverse Camera
            -Codeless install
-Plug'n'Play with any MK5/MK6 VW that had an RCD300/500/510 or RNS310/510
-No VAGCOM coding for installing (RVC may need some coding to work properly

            Some Units support:
            -MirrorLink
            -MirrorLink & Apple CarPlay

            No Units support:
            -MFD integration
            -Built in GPS
-CD or DVD Playback (there's a slightly different variant with a smaller screen that does if you really want to retain this feature)

Features some people have reported working, but remain unconfirmed :
-MK6 Steering wheel controls in a MK6 VW
-MK6 Steering wheel controls in a MK5 VW
-Working with OEM Dynaudio Premium Sound Systems

There are four Variants of these RCD330+'s
-Desay Unit's feature a mute button in the top right hand corner, aren't capable of Apple CarPlay and run on a WinCE 6.0 based OS. They are capable of MirrorLink (Not the same as AndroidAuto)

-Noname Units are called such because they have no manufacturer name on the unit themselves. They're visually similar and operationally identical to the Desay units, but are more expensive and Run a Unix/Linux Based OS. Some of these units seem to support "Baidu Car Life" which is a Chinese version of Carplay (i think).

-Noname "Hacked" Units are visually the same as units mentioned above, but have an extra 256mb of ram (512mb total) soldered to there logic board and a custom OS installed that enables Apple CarPlay functionality. In the earlier days of these units the custom OS was very buggy and these units where avoided but these days they seem to be functionally identical to the bellow. These are pricier than the normal 'noname' units due to the modifications done.

**I've seen all the above units listed as "6RD 035 187A" Units***

-Noname "6RD 035 187 B" Units feature a Phone button in the top right corner. These are the most expensive units and seem to be the top level units. They Officially support MirrorLink and CarPlay. Like the other Noname units they run a Unix/Linux based OS.

People seem to think that the noname units receive firmware updates much quicker (idk how accurate this is), but at the end of the day the best unit for you is the one that best matches your needs. I have Desay unit in the mail because:
-I use an android phone capable of MirrorLink
-The Desay units are the cheapest (Mine was about $125AUD Shipped)
            -I dont have an iPhone.

Just got my Desay Unit in the mail, along with a Dash storage tray ill be putting in at the same time. Pretty impressed with the shipping time, only took 7 days from paying for it to be at my door.

I'll report back on how it goes in the next day or two. Dash storage tray (To suit MK5 Golf/Jetta) for anyone interested : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dashboard-Center-Storage-Tray-Shelf-For-VW-Jetta-Golf-GTI-Rabbit-2006-2008-2009/182190711433?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid =p2057872.m2749.l2649

Got the unit install earlier today. Love it.

-Sounds much better than my old RCD500
                -UI is very responsive
                -'boot time' is near instant
                -great bluetooth integration

I do miss my steering wheel controls but i might be updating to a MK6 Wheel soon anyway so ill live for now.
I was surprised to see the unit reporting external temperature in the 'status bar' section near the time and phone signal cluster, as well as receiving a "12V Low" warning after a while of listening with the car switched off, so there's some fairly decent CAN intergration happening

Few Pictures of it being installed : RCD330 Plus Install - Album on Imgur

                    If you have a MK6 or a MK5 with a MK6 wheel, then yes.

Yup, this is a 187B unit that comes with CarPlay from stock. That said, its my belief that CarPlay only works with iPhones 5 through to 7+, rather than iPods. If you dont already have an iPhone check this list for MirrorLink Compatibilty : MirrorLink

                      Good Luck

Is this the same as the one being sold on Aliexpress? It shows the back of the unit and it seems an origianl VW part.

                        Access Denied

Sorry i should have been a little more specific.

I was considering getting an iPod to fit in the center console as the cable for the MDI isn't long enough and keeps disconnecting with my iPhone 7+ so i couldn't consistently keep it connected.

Getting the RCD330+ would be on par if not cheaper than the iPod option and provide more function IMO.

Presently i have to manually change song on my phone and all it will take is one fine for using my phone while driving for this to pay for itself so id rather just avoid that all together and grab one.

I'm quite interested in this but the idea of a cable running down the front horrifies me. The best right angled usb cable i've found so far is the nonda ZUS right angled USB cable, which would need running back into the dash. Still not ideal. Surely there is some sort of flush USB cable or plug out there that could go straight down and back in while sitting flush. Anyone seen anything like that?

Hi, can anyone confirm if it's possible to have one phone connected as Bluetooth handsfree and another one (Android) with mirrorlink at the same time.
My main phone isn't mirrorlink compatible but I have a galaxy which is compatible with mirrorlink and it would be great to use it for apps like Google maps and Waze.
                              Regards.
