  • Avc-9000

Hi, everyone. I finally did it - had an AVC-9000 installed with rear camera into my Eos & it is truly great - clear sound & Nav, bluetooth, DVD, radio & ipod all work well. Even put a small subwoofer in, just to accentuate the bass. Rob from Melbourne (Auspacks) is always helpful. There are a few minor problems(6th gen ipods don't charge;can't get ipod video to work) but am hoping to iron these out eventually. I recommend these esp for the price. regards, Mark

    • My wife was given a set of LCD screens to hang in the rear seats for the kids whilst travelling.

Has anyone used the video out RCA lead on the AVC9000?

Will it be as simple as running a lead from the unit to these screens (which have a video in port) to enable the kids to watch DVD's from the back seat?

      • They'll probably need some power too.

        • They get power from a 12v adapter.

          Will fiddle this weekend!

          • Put my AVC9000-1 in the other day and it is brilliant ($920 delivered). Looks fantastic and went in easily without a hitch. It is fairly easy to use and go through all the menus. All the steering wheel controls work as well. Wired the GPS aerial up onto the far left corner on the front of the dash and looks integrated with the vehicle. I have no AM reception and got a dual fakra Y connector today and this should fix the problem of me only getting FM at present. The DVD's look good but are a little dark. I pumped up the brightness to max and they look heaps better. I am pretty stoked at this unit for the price The sound is great and probably better than my previous RCD500. This unit is worth getting if you are after a GPS/DVD/bluetooth unit that looks like the genuine OEM on a budget price. Rob at Auspacks is brilliant. I emailed him numerous times and he rung me and talked to me about my purchase. He emailed me back all the time pretty soon after I sent an enquiry through. I have been reading up about this product for a few weeks mainly on other VW forum sites being the Waywell 6050 which is pretty much the same unit. All in all very happy with my AVC9000-1

            • Does your AVC9000-1 function properly with the on/off and also MDF integration?

It works the same as the RCD500 and turns on/off with the ignition but you can't run it with the key out of the ignition though. There is no display of info in the MFD. I want to get a small under seat sub woofer and was looking at a Focal (76x348x242 mm) BUS 20 8 inch. I think I could get one for about $400. Most people say that a sub woofer makes a good difference.

Are you talking about the Focal one?

Don't think it'll fit easily. It's 348mm on it's longest dimension, you've got about 320mm between the seat rails on the passenger side and even less on the drivers side.

I had a look and my width under the seat is 360mm across but a think the width of the sub woofer at 242 might project into the rear footwell a bit. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

                    • If you ditch the spare tyre (which you don't need if your a city dweller, tyre pump can works fine, i've used it twice), you will have ample space to mount a small aluminium bracket onto which you can mount your amp perfectly.

This also makes for a completely hidden install, better weight distribution front/rear if you have a heavy amp and also provides a short run of cable between amp and subwoofer.

Also means that your amp will have air underneath and above it if you mount it to the frame that retains the spare tyre. Basically 2x aluminium slats screwed with tech screws sideways...then just screw the amp onto those.

                      Bingo!

That's interesting. I've definitely only got 320mm there - there's a very empty looking plastic electrical-connector type frame thingo under the carpet that takes up a bit of space - I presume this is absent in your car.

(I have an MY08 GT TDI)

Also interesting, I don't have a bunch of foam surrounding the spare in the boot. AFAIK this is for petrol cars only, something to do with anti-smog equipment... maybe someone knows better?

Polar, I'm not ditching my spare and I seriously doubt anyone is going to notice 5 kg being at the rear rather than the middle of the car

And if you're worried about weight, you want to get the amp closer to the battery - the batt-> amp cable is heavier than the amp-> sub cable

                        • In my system the cable going from my amp to my sub costs more than my entire car audio system combined LOL.

Dad had a spare linearly aligned carbon fibre zero noise high end SQL cable from his old audio setup.

I had to turn down my subwoofer control by 40% because the carbon cable was so much more bass! vs normal speaker cable.

Yeah I had one of them once but never installed it because it needed to be wired in series with a pair of high impedance short circuits and I couldn't find any at the time.

I thought the AVC9000-1 was meant to have MFD integration?

                              • I tried out the blue tooth phone yesterday and it works good. My wife said it sounded alright whilst I was talking. I have read a lot people say your voice isn't that loud due to the inbuilt mic but from our test it works okay. All the steering wheel controls work and you can pick up the call via the phone button on the wheel. It integrated with my blue tooth easily but I used 0000 to connect and not 1234 like in the book.
