Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

There is no newer firmware available.
Dealers never update anything unless there is a TPI which tells them to, or a customer complaints about something and there is an update which might fix that specific problem
If it's under warranty from the dealer have them replace it.
You can't use older firmware on that model.
You can reload the current firmware which is worth a try if it's out of dealer warranty.

Thanks Kamold, it's a bit of a minefield with all the different firmware versions etc.
They did note that they suggested replacing it on the service paperwork so that should help when I go back to the dealer. It came with a 12 month warranty. Wish me luck

With your unit that is the only version available, and would have been on there from factory.

Push for a replacement.
If you don't have any luck then try reloading fw.

In have a 2011 Tiguan with the RNS 510 and which I have found to be pretty slow to start up and sometimes to operate. My SW Version is 4120. Would a firmware upgrade help or would it be better to leave things as they are? I don't want to upgrade just for the sake of it. I have updated my maps to 2015 V8 and I believe the next version is the latest available. Is that correct.

I think 5328 is the latest but doesnt make all that much difference Latest map is V9 but almost no one has it because the price is $500+ and there will never be any more for that unit.
Best save up and buy a newer unit for not much more than the map price

FW5328 provides much less "errors" for the unit, therefore is a much more stable platform. It may/may not enhance interface speed, but having had it on my RNS510's for quite a number of years now, there have been zero screen freezes, zero issues and the unit has worked flawlessly. Also, the number of 'recorded errors' (displayed via the hidden menu) have been considerably less than previous versions (4120 included).

Hillbilly is right about the new generation units. RCD330+ etc. The RNS510 was a good solid unit but there are no more updates for firmware or maps. Spending money on a new generation RCD is a wise move.

i just want to double check as this is a favour for my bosses family car and a wrong move will either solidify our friendship or end it, no pressure.

They have the 2012 Skoda Octavia, Melbourne based and its defaulted to German mode. The unit has the following specs

HW Version H60
SW Version 3984
Map Aust/NZ - 7492
Map Supplier - Sensis

Just checking that loading the Firmware 523x link on the first page of this thread is the right approach?

Hi Guys

The short version:
I'm in Sydney: is there anyone out there with a 5238 disk that works in their RNS510?
My CD writer may be suspect and I'm trying to revive my RNS510.

The long version:
I have just bought a 2010 Tiguan and the RNS510 stopped working after a few weeks.
The unit will switch on but displays nothing but a plain white screen (no logo). Radio, phone etc. does not work.

I removed the unit and it is a 1 T0 035 680 C (HW:H41, SW:2720 and S-date: 04.07.2010)

I have burned 6 CD-R and DVD-R disks (using recommended programs) with the 5238 ISO file but the RNS510 doesn't complete the firmware update process and spits the disk out without displaying the standard progress screens.

I have tried the AU_FW_5238_90_5_5.iso file and a 2720 file from my-gti.com.

If there is no firmware disk in RNS510, it cycles through startup attempts and displays a blank white screen for 3-4 seconds and then goes dark except for an intermittent flicker of light at the top of the screen.

When there is a firmware disk in the unit, it will eject it after about a minute's intermittent activity (CD Read sounds and HDD sounds).
It will then display what appears to be a very big, out of focus letter "O" (the edges of the screen is dark and the middle is a white ellipse).

Questions:
1. I think my little plug-in CD/DVD Writer may be suspect. I would like to try a disk that is a known quantity to eliminate the potential CD/DVD disk quality as variable. Is there anyone in Sydney with such a disk for me to try?

2. Is there anything else I could try?
