Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Okay will try that. Can't seem to find a 4020 factory. Would either a 2680 or 2720 factory do the trick?

        • I found you cant install the same version map over itself. Found this out way back when we were having fun with V6 not showing streets.

It was the one that had the wrong CRC Got the right one and it wouldnt install. So out of curiosity I tried the V5 I had and it installed OK

So by then I had the good V6 version and it installed OK and fixed the street problem.

Maybe look for a V7 version and try that Used to be floating around

          • Tried a version of 4020 firmware today to downgrade and had success loading V8 maps! Thanks for your help. Now the question is whether I should try updating to a newer firmware or stick with 4020. Cheers!

              • 5238 is the most stable and complete firmware version for most units.

                • I thought 5274 would be better if the car is post-2008?

Oh I didn't mean to be disrespectful at all, I am just purely asking a question.

The answer is 5238 for the reasons he said above Support for that unit is over by VW and no more maps either so its toast really.

                        • 5269 and 5274 can be very unstable on some units, causing random reboots etc.
By all means try them (there are no feature differences to 523 but in general 5238 is the most broadly compatible version.

Thanks for the info and I took your wise advice and updated to 5238 without a glitch. Had to reload the map but all my addresses remained. Parking sensor and climate control on-screen display are all present.

One weird phenomenon is that the headunit will jump back to display bluetooth audio randomly when I have it on a map. It happens when my iPhone switches between songs, but does not happen with every song...

                            • Hi, I have a 2014 VW Jetta TDI that I just purchased.
                              Delivery port number: 1T0035680L
                              Hardware version: H09,
                              SW: 5269,
                              Map HDD : 8035.

I wish to update my Australian maps to the latest version. I dont think updating the firmware would be necessary since theres no significant upgrade after that. Does anyone know where I could get it? Further what version of maps does 8035 correspond to? V9?? Thanks for your help.

V9 was on sale for about $500 and apparently wasnt a lot different to V8 which most of us use as no one is going to pay for V9
VW no longer support versions of maps for the RNS 510
