Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

Hi Members,
New to RNS units but not to VWs.
Read through the thread before upgrading to 5238 which completed successfully on a HW-Version H04 (can't tell you what firmware was on it before as the secret menu wouldn't appear, only saw a radio menu when holding setup button down).
Updated the maps with v7 DVD successfully.
Now am trying to get the Navigation to pickup my location.
Have driven around for about 20-30 mins and navigation appears to be seeing satellites but doesn't show the location on the map and thinks every direction I drive in is North! (I read somewhere that Passats use the GPS for compass reading)
The secret menu shows the GPS antenna is connected (and maps worked ok with the previous firmware), it shows the speed etc...I can browse around the maps.
Is it normally just a matter of time before it locates and the Navigation starts working?

Yes and latest map is V8 you can change it to track up by touching the icon in top right of the screen.

Give it time. Very first GPS fix can take a while (have seen anything up to 50mins). But once it has done so will be instantaneous going forward.

This morning it got a fix on location after about 40 mins and showed the location on the map.
Will seek the latest V8 maps.

$55 at a dealers Wait for a few weeks V9 should be out in a month or so. Usually March / early April

Any news on V9? Just picked up a 2012 Passat and want to update firmware and maps soon.

You can update the firmware any time. Just use 5238.
Maps will be available when they are released.

Tried to upgrade the firmware on my 2012 Octavia RS with 4120 AUS version. Unit is Columbus. It keeps getting stuck at 30% while it is updating APPL (14%). Error message I am getting is: Error 239.

My previous version was. 3T0035680B, H55, 3984.

Can someone help please my unit doesn't start, keeps asking for installation cd.

I worked it out, thanks. Failed dvd was burned with 24x speed using microsoft's inbuild dvd burner. I burned another dvd with 1x speed using imgburn and it worked.

Is there much difference between 5238 and 4120? Is it worth upgrading? thnx

definitely. Go the 523* version. Much more stable, less errors, easier on the motherboard.

My Octavia is currently updating to 5238 - keen to see the outcome

I always regretted upgrading from stock, 4030 was slow and didn't give much benefit

Edit: And the result is, much improved performance/response - Happy!

Wow, the post is huge! Sorry if i missed information relevant to my question... I found this link to map updates for my 2015 Golf..maybe. It does not state version number on the website so i cant tell if this is newer than my V3 maps. Any idea how to find out? VW_APAC_Pro_MIB1_New

About two months ago I wrote to VW Aus about an RNS 510 V9 map for Australia. Many weeks later I got an email saying they'd get around to it. Never did, so I contacted WW Wolfsburg. They replied quickly and put a bomb under VW Aus, who have just rung me to say that V9 is now available through dealers.

I was so thrilled I forgot to ask the price.
