Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

Hi Hillbilly,
I put the disc in correctly. Somehow during the process, i think the process just stopped. I pressed eject disc and i think also Setup+Eject+*, then this happen. I now don't know what to do. Will try to manually remove the disc and try the recovery CD.

Turn the unit off and wait for a few minutes and turn it on again might clear it

You will stuff it if you try and force it out as the carriage will be jammed and you cant just pull a disc out as it sits over a centre spindle which is held up under the disc to spin it.. You could try reset by holding in the two left buttons and the right hand one across the top all at once

I know the 3 button-combo along the top of the HU is used to reset the device during normal operation, but I recall you need a different combo of buttons for when you're in the firmware upgrade mode, and I'm sure one of those buttons in the SETUP key.

Try <SETUP>+<EJECT>+<MIC> to enter downgrade mode....

I have tried all combo, SETUP+EJECT+*, <+>+* but the unit still stay in the white screen.
I have also tried disconnect the power to the unit and connect again after 60min but it still the same white screen.
If i should not tried to force the CD out, i just don't know what other way I can eject the CD and put the recovery CD in.

RNS 510 will not start

Was just trying to reset it to help him get the stuck DVD out Not anything else where is the Mic key

Some unites have a mic button top-right, others have a star, and there may even be another variant.

Doesn't sound too good.
You'd have to take the DVD drive out and remove the disk, put in the recovery CD and then try to resurrect it.

Could you please let me know how to remove the disk from the dvd drive?
Is there a button or something that you can push to release the disk?

No button you need to disassemble the unit. Refer to the Ssd upgrade stickie for In structions

I managed to take the drive out and removed the CD, plugged the unit back and started it up, still the same white screen.
The unit does not respond to anything, I can put the recovery CD in either, any idea?
Have I damaged the unit?

Unless you can get the unit to load the recovery CD the only way to fix it is via the service port at the back with special software and cable. Its possible that there is hardware fault, which could be diagnosed at that point.

There is no point installing 5xxx series firmware as it is for new EU units that have DAB tuners. No other features over 4120 which only adds RDS over 39xx.

Well done Hillbilly...good to see clarification being provided, to counteract the the 'flippant' information that sometimes appears, which could lead owners down a dangerous path of possibly damaging their unit, because someone plastered unsubstantiated information.

In other words...don't just post up what you "heard" There are specific 'ceilings' in regard to what particular units can be upgraded to.

Hi, I am new to the siteso apologies if I have not post this in the correct forum. Have a Passat 2009 r36 with the RNS 510. Wanted to confirm that my device will only upgrade to 38XX the part number to my device is 1T0035680D and HW Vehicle is 0xC201 (was previously upgraded) Am I able to go to version 412X ? I also have another issue where If I try to load custom POI's the option is greyed out in the setup menu under navigation.. Any help would be appreciated.
