Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

Running 3970 and apart from the text to speech I'm not really seeing a good reason to bother then. In terms of the hard drive there's already 2500 odd songs on there without the need for the repartition, plenty of space left and the prospect of reloading all those songs after an unnecessary repartition is daunting.

Maps are v6 already anyway so I'm going to pass on the firmware for now methinks. I might be tempted with the VIM patch but can't really see a huge need for it anyway.

Maybe when the cars a few years old...

+1. My car (Superb elegance) is 12 months old. Struggling to see why I should upgrade from 3970. My hard drive is empty as I use an SD card (I find it soooo much easier adding and deleting songs this way so doubt I'll ever use the hard drive). There has to be a VERY good reason for me to upgrade my firmware, as things stand

Updated to Firmware 4120 this arvo Took 45 mins.

All good Didnt lose maps or HDD music

Map sort of disappeared till I parked outside for a while Then had trouble as North wanted to stay at top of screen.

Put a route in (memory still there) and went for a drive of 1km Half way along it decided to reorient to direction up so is OK

Apparently according to the manual it wont load a map if you already have that version.

It took 10 mins before unit recognised it however. Loaded Aussietigs POI file in as well All good Many thanks

All good now to find out what I got for holding breath for 45 mins LOL

I recently bought an MY13 Scirocco R and I'm new to this stuff, so I hope I'm not reposting. Is firmware 4120 compatible with all vehicles with the RNS 510 or would it act differently depending on the car? Looking into the secret menu I was able to determine that I do need 4120.

Thanks for this thread. I just uploaded 381x to my B unit and it worked perfectly. Also put V6 Maps on it.

A couple of quick questions,
1) Does the mapping/FW upgrade have speech to text for the spoken female voice
2) I seem to have lost my VW Dynaudio startup page. Ill probably download one of the custom ones but is this a known problem?

Actually i noticed that the dynaudio and VW sign came up when i just got into the car, but when i turn off and on the stereo the time appears instead of the logo. This may be a function of the new FW.

Actually i noticed that the dynaudio and VW sign came up when i just got into the car, but when i turn off and on the stereo the time appears instead of the logo. This may be a function of the new FW.

Hey mate, I have a B unit as well and also upgraded to that firmware.

From what I've noticed, the splash screen comes up on a cold start but on a warm start its the time (it doubles as the standby screen as well)

Mine has always had a female voice but the V6 map apparently has a new male one.

CORRECTION THE VOICE IS IN THE FIRMWARE UPDATE

The startup logo hasnt chaged from original either.

Nor did I lose the map or contents of the HDD when i went from 4020 to 4120 Firmwaree

So figured that I have b unit, but cant seem figure out which firmware i have. One question i can't seem to answer is what benefits ill get for upgrading? Not a naysayer but interested..

Over the years new firmware has increased the size of SD cards that can be read, sped up device performance slightly, changed the boot screen (nicer imo), allowed you to use voice control to enter a new destination while driving (works well), and recently added Radio Text (song names, weather forecast, etc) on the radio screen.

Just gotta remember when you do decide to take the plunge that your B unit can only upgrade so far (punching above its weight).

Definitely can't use the latest version floating around!

Turn unit on Hold SETUP down till screen changes to the two radio bands and Version information
Press that and it will go to black and white screen and will tell you on one line

SW version XXXX Thats the Firmware

Further down it will say MAP version XXXX

Now you know

You can only update so far in the Firmware on that unit as per the Sticky but can update to the latest map

FW V Question:

At the beginning of this thread it says "Firmware 421x - Link" but the link downloads "AU_4120_FW_90_5_5" is this a typo? Which version number is correct as the latest?
