  • Not 100% sure with the Skoda file structure. Only have successfully modified the VW one after many hours of trial and error and many failed attempts.

But I would hazard a guess and say "All Skoda" is equivalent to "All Categories" in the VW file structure.
If that's the case, then it's the master list in which the unit uses for all categories searching.

I have only needed to modify my V5 map to include my custom POIs onto the master list.
In other words, I suggest you only have to do this if you want to include custom POIs into "All Skoda" subfolder, if you want the unit to return custom POIs in a "search for anything nearby" query.

But I have attempted not to alter the name of the equivalent folder to "All Skoda". So not sure whether that would stuff up the search every POI or not. Best not to rename it on first trial, if you want to successfully build your modified map incrementally.

My other tip is to just load all your custom POIs via SD card under a completely separate PersonalPOI.db3 file and 'Personal' subfolder.

Certainly this is my tip if you're loading a ****load of POIs like I have done.

Refer to my post #21 within the Collection of POI's sticky for better picture and explanation of what I'm talking about.

Too lazy to explain and repeat here.

In terms of playing around with distances, I would advise against it based on the fact that it just adds more time and effort required for the process and for very little gain.

You have to remember that our units don't make any audible alerts with POIs. So adjusting distances is a bit pointless.

Also, shorter distances will mean more clutter on the map as more POIs will be shown as you zoom in.

Just stick to the default distance.

    • It appears it is best not to disturb the structure of the POI file within the maps. I certainly think moving folders (say "downtown" which reads Town centres) out of say the car and travel folder to put it in the root directory tree as above to make it more easily accessible and / or renaming the folder (as I did to Localities), stuffs the entire POI search up. All POIs are totally unsearchable even when the all skoda directory was not renamed & left the way it is meant to other than adding a few more new POI categories. It searches & the number of POIs found creeps up but when the results button is hit, it says : "No POI was found with these search options". This happens for every single POI category whether all categories is selected or individual POIs under A-Z or their genre folders.

I suspect purely adding seperate new POIs may work okay.

I also want to change some of the icons but unsure if that causes the chaos that I have experienced (I have heard of others doing this without major hassles but if it does, say for police stations, I will just duplicate new POIs for the PersonalPOI file with the desired icon & make it appear on the map that way).

I will have a further play tonight & be able to report back on those last two points to confirm whether they do or don't disrupt the POI searching & essentially make it a useless function.

Yes ... I did warn you in post #196 against modifying too much of the original file structure.

Definitely one's own personal POI should be kept in an entirely separate folder.

There's definitely a magic number of POI categories that you can be successfully appended to the existing folders.

In the end, it just wasn't worth the trouble working out just how many that number was.

But definitely it was well short of the 119 POI categories that I successfully loaded and all useable via personalPOI method.

If you haven't given up trying, then I can pass on a few more observations that I had.

There is either a limit on the number of POI categories that can be within each subfolder or a limit on the number of sub-folder within the original folder structure. One of these caused my previous attempts to embed my 119 into the existing folder structure to fail.

You will need to eliminate one or the other to work out what this limit is (through trial and error), in order to successfully embed.

Lastly, in all my attempts ... I never once renamed any of the original subfolder names.

                • On the previous firmware (4020?) I could use my voice to enter in a nav destination while driving. Today I tried for the first time with 4120 and when I said 'City' it stopped voice control and got me to type it all in (it would let me type while driving though). Can I get the old feature back somehow?

I'm wondering if the latest firmware killed the feature: .::MFD3::. » VW Says The End of Voice Command

                        • Will have a look, expected it to be the same since I copied/pasted the coding when upgrading the firmware since it was wiped.

                          • Hi guys,
A couple of videos on how to upload the POI from SD card and how to Mark them so they stay on the map

                            - upload POIs from SD card
                            - mark the Speed Cameras so they appear when you travel

Hope it helps to some of us who have struggled with these features.
