Custom POIs with 3xxx firmware, Aus/NZ Maps v 4.1 and POInspect0r

Never really noticed any major difference in speed from 2XXX to 3XXX. However, what I have noticed, is that music on a 32Gb SD card runs much better on 3XXX. When on 2XXX, i had to wait 5 minutes+ for the songs to load, and flicking between albums was unbearable. 3XXX is very quick, in fact, it is the same speed as the HDD. So I now have 60Gb of useable storage for music (30Gb HDD and 30Gb SD).

My reference to slower performance is in the showing of your position on the map when using the Sat Nav.

Definitely you should notice the lag I'm talking about on the display, when say you turn onto a new road.

Wasn't as prevalent when my C unit was operating under 2760.


But definitely can live with this considering it is punching above its weight operating under FW 3XXX.

Yes I agree it is a little slower in updating your position when turning into a road, but to be honest, its a small trade off for increased speed in navigating through the SD card and being able to upload custom POI's. I actually thought it was the v4.1 maps that introduced the slight lag, but as I updated the firmware at the same time, then your probably right in that it's the firmware upgrade that has caused the delay.

Sweet... all done on mine, 3970, v5 maps, custom POIs in the map, and Personal POIs loaded as well. Have changed some of the icons used by the guys in this thread to ones I prefer, and have added QLD School Zones.

Yes FW 3XXX will do that ... just like a push up bra.

But fellas don't be so easily fooled.

Hey Guys I am after some help. I have been able update my maps to V5 from V4.1 using the link that was provided. I forgot to say I am using a D unit with software 3970. That is fine. But I am having problems with the points of interest. I have first tried using a SD card and loading of Ponitsofinterest file and the system when I go into set up and Nav, the my points of interest is greyed out. That is using either V4.1 or V5. I have then tried taken a copy of the Disk I burnt with V5 opening it up and deleting and replaceing the POI file, burning a image of the file using IMGburn. Then burning this image onto a disk.

The unit accepts the disk asks to load and asks if I want to install the maps. It starts nearly finshes then stops right near the end spits out the disk and asks for the nav disk. If I put the disk back it will go through the process of install then spits out saying disk error.

Then I install the normal disk and I am back at stage one.

Can anybody offer any advice or is there a nice person who can offer a V5 disk image withe points of interest in there?

Trying to upgrade firmware. It seems to find the swl file and looks like it is going to install, But I get an error message (010306) and it spits the disk out.. I have tried different brands of cd and dvd... How do I know what version my rns510 is.? I found this in the hidden menu. SV SW-Version C_EU_5.540_t730

Error Message 010306 usually means that you are attempting to load a FW version which is higher than the unit can operate with or accept.

Sounds like you may have an A unit

How do I tell what the unit is that I have?

If you don't have the secret menu enabled.....you will need to :
1). Find someone who has a VCDS cable and get the secret menu enabled, or
2). Find someone with a VCDS cable and scan the 37 module to get a 'read' on the RNS unit (VCDS does not lie), or
3). Take the unit out and check the model number sticker on it.

Is the secret menu the one you get when you hold the setup button in for 30 seconds, then I have that.. I thought that was what I posted.

HOWEVER....the version depicted in this image (that you may provide) could very well be wrong. Which is why VCDS or visually checking the unit sticker is the only true way to tell what unit you have.

eg...I could give you a screenshot of mine (just like above...except it shows it's a "D" version)...but the screen (despite showing D) is actually wrong. It's an A unit which has been 'tripped' over to a D version, due to the FW upgardes that have been completed.

What firmware version are you trying to upgrade too anyway???

I do have a cable and vagcom. I bought it off one of the members here.. When I hooked it up to look at what it could do, It scared the crap out of me..So I unplugged it very quickly.. LOL

Then I'd say you have a version A unit, same as mine. 3810 is as far as I can go. No advantage trying to get to 39XX series.

If I try to load 39XX onto mine...I get the same message.
