  • Pretty sure someone mentioned it somewhere. That said there are two overlapping threads regarding POIs and New Maps.

I upgraded my firmware and maps to 4.1 to get new POIs but haven't done the latest update that has speed limit info since there are reports of inaccuracies (i.e. 120kph limit on various freeways).

    • Yep, Drove to geelong yesterday and it showed 120 kph as the speed limit... What I did notice with the new maps, I have it set to show 3 routes and now they are colored more clearly..

      • the speed will NEVER be correct. i dont know about people in victoria, but in NSW i can drive down a street and 3 days later its a different speed limit.

id rather 2 years newer maps and a wrong speed. you actually should be looking at the speed limit shown on the road anyway

        • I rarely find myself on a new unmapped road so I don't mind so much. There is the odd occasion though where you can't remember if it was 90 or 100 for example, or you may have passengers questioning the difference between what's displayed and what you're actually doing, etc. I'm happy with what I've got and have got Google Maps on my phone as a fall-back. If that rumored new version with SUNA (rubbish though it may be) comes out then I may be tempted, but will wait for other people's impressions first.

          • Hi guys

            i think i have a version B - IT0035680B with SW version 0900

i notice from the stick about versions that it says i should upgrade to firmware 38xx. However in this thread the 3 partion has been made for firmware 39xx. Can i install this on my machine? I want to be able to add speed cams and custom POI's.

Or if i can only upgrade to firmware 38xx, then how can i get the POI's?

            thanks

            • All 3xxx series firmware has three partitions - music, map and POI database.
The 38xx firmware has been modified to make it more compatible with older units, hence why it is recommended.

ok thanks kamold - i guess the partion will just be the standard one then, but that's ok I will most likely use an ipod anyway. hopefully will get it all loaded this w/e...

I don't understand what you are trying to say here at all...can you re-phrase the comment?

                  • My attempt at a translation: "I guess the partitions will remain the standard ratio (smaller music drive), but no problem since I'll just use an iPod to store/play all my songs"

                    • Thanks Ryan.
The custom 38xx firmware has 90/5/5 partition sizes maximized for music storage.

                      • I updated to the new FW and Map version a while back, but not sure if it’s a coincidence but my GPS location now majority of the time is inaccurate. After some time it syncs correctly but majority of the time is says I am somewhere else instead of home or city. Anyone else had issues or do you think this could be the GPS antenna? Any help would be great.

Is it a retrofit or factory?
If retrofit its likely antenna placement/connection.

                            • POI Inspect0r Questions

I had a few questions about POI Inspect0r (running 5.7) & altering/adding POIs in V5 of the Aussie maps. I'd rather I check before loading on the new data & trying to do it the best way the first time 'round. Not sure if I should have started a new thread but I'll see how I go...

I've made some alterations to the original "tree" inside the program. I changed all skoda (for the A-Z listing of all POIs) to ALL POIs. I imagine this doesn't affect anything other than it'll have the name I want but what about the search in all now renamed SEARCH ALL POIs? Does that branch & folder even come up & do anything anyway? Is renaming it okay to do?

                              Here are the pics.
                              Original:

                              Altered:

I noticed there is obvous duplication of POIs, first listed in the appropriate category, and the second under the appropriate area under the branch A-Z (now planned to be ALL POIs. For the original POIs, if I changed the lowercase of one category to uppercase (+/- chaged the name as well) then it automatically changed the other copy of the POI wherever it was. When I added my own POIs though, there is no duplication & there didn't seem to be anyway to "link" them. So I literally just made a new category under the A-Z section (so if I entered POIs for Skoda>Dog Food Shops then I also made Skoda>ALL POIs>Dog Food Shops. Is this the right thing to do?

Finally, does anyone have suggestions about the appropriate distance figure to have various POIs appear on the map (obviously if they are the selected ones)? POI Inspect0r 5.7 defaults to 4000m. I thought maybe 2000m for car parks and 500m for speed cameras. Is this what others have chosen or am I completely out of whack?

                              Thanks in advance.

                              • With modifying the POIs as you are you have to create a new custom map disk and load that. Can't be done via the sdcard upload method (I think).
The whole thing is a bit of a black art and requires trial and error in a lot of cases.
I haven't done any editing for a while of poi dbs Aussietig has done some good work in this area and his experience could be helpful.
