Hi all. Anyone help a Pom?

Have followed Kamold's steps (excellent guide btw) up to step 9 and all working great. I now have 3970FW + v4.1 (CD_7676) maps all installed and everything works fine.... except...

The option to install 'My points of Interest' is greyed out and no matter what I do I can't seem to change it. I have checked the SD card...I have a PersonalPOI root folder with the PersonalPOI.db3 file (from PoiInspect0r v5.6) installed inside it.

The only thing I am unsure of is that my Maps disk came with some POI's preinstalled on the disk...not sure if this would prevent adding custom POI's or not???

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    A Pom!

Sounds like you might not have the 3 partitions.
Can you hold setup until you get the secret menu, and check the hdd status ?

I don't seem to get the secret menu...only the one before with AM, FM and Version Info.

I did my FW updates from 2760 to 3814 before going to 3970. This is supposed to create the correct partition structure automatically.

Kamold's modified 3970 definitely has secret menu enabled.

Try going straight to 3970 from 2760. It worked for me.

Also maybe you've got the wrong version map that doesn't support importing POIs via SD.
On your map disk there should be a file called POI.DB3 or at least with that file extension.

Just downloading Kamolds custom 3970 build now so will give that a try tomorrow. Using v8 Western Europe maps which are supposed to support the separate POi's. I agree though...sounds like the partition didn't create. Will let you know how I get on.

..meant to add - using the Columbus unit on a Skoda so not sure if the secret menu will work.

            Thanks for your help.

Secret menu is enabled for both vw and Skoda in the ISO that I made.

Cool. Thanks Kamold. Download just finished but it's midnight here now so will try it in the morning.

I really admire the work kamold has put in and want to give it a try, although the crappy map version makes me wonder at the end benefit. Anyway, before I proceed I note aussietig points out there is a change to OPS and just wonder whether there could be an adverse effect on the rear view camera display. Can anyone comment on any effect on the RVC, please?

EDIT: OK, I bit the bullet and everything went to order. RVC works as before, OPS has the improvements noted by aussietig and his POI data loaded correctly from the SD card. The Noosaville BP Ultimate servo isn't displayed, but that is in the .db3 file, so that needs sorting. Thanks again to kamold and aussietig for helping to overcome the unacceptable shortcomings of the VW factory-fitted RNS510. The poor quality of the supplied maps and software is a disgrace, considering the price paid and lamentable performance compared to my Nokia N86 phone. Spoken street names, speed display, speed limits, current maps, decent POI data and free updates are not too much to ask for the money, surely?

I think the hardware would be up to all those features...the rnse I had in my A3 had limited spoken street names (ie major roads only) and supports voice entry for destinations.
I think without too much effort from continental, at vw's request, the rns510 could be much closer in its feature set to current handheld gps navigators.

But I can't see that happening at the moment. Maybe we can be surprised by a brand new 4xxx series firmware that brings some new features

One further small point. I now have the Europe startup screen and wonder is it possible to restore the original? I had a look at kamold's disk and couldn't work out where the image is. Just a thought.

                        Hi Kamold
Installed your custom firmware (thx for that). All installed OK...secret menu is now available and says that I have 3 partitions. Reloaded maps but still got same issue... PersonalPOI option is greyed out still. SD card has got the right folder in the root (PersonalPOI) with PersonalPOI.db3 in the folder (as created by POIInspect0r v5.6). Maps are W.Europe v8. Anything else I can try?
                        TIA
                        Mike

try restarting the unit with the SD card out, then one navigation is ready (when the map comes up) reinsert the card and check the menu option

The image is not just a file accessible on the disk.
The easiest way to change it is this way:

Hi guys. Thanks for your help. I had to wait until the maps had finished copying off the disk before the menu became visible but all is working now.

                                A grateful Pom!
