My totally unscientific observation is that the frame rate on the navigation map is higher with 39xx than 2760, it looks 'smoother'...but maybe its just my imagination...you'd really have to take video of each or have two running side by side to compare...

Anyone else have the same impression?

It is definatley running better, smoother and faster.

Even the menu selection is quicker in responding. It used to have a delay when I adjusted the volume via the steering wheel. The volume display on the screen would pop up a few seconds later and then hang for a bit while the red bar moved. Now it is instant, and same with the climatronic display. Much smother.

i tried installing this but it didnt work for me, from memory it said something about the source of the software or it was unsigned, I have to retry.

I do already have vim & the secret menu.

If you could take a note of the exact message it would help, but it sounds like you have an 'invalid source' which means that the RNS510 can't read the disk properly. Try to burn the disk again, using the slowest possible speed. Also try another brand of disk, or a different burner.

thanks kamold, i reburnt at 1x and its loading now.
will this by chance reset my region code ? im hoping so i went to vw and they said they couldnt change it for some reason it wouldnt apply the new region code from their computer to my car =( they want to reflash it and ill have to leave my car with them

Region coding is set via vcds as far as I remember.

yep, went down to a fellow vww members place and borrowed the vcds to change it, went to the dealership they tried for an hour and couldnt do it, 2 mins with vcds.

With the POI i registered to that site but every time i tried to download the garmin or any set it tells me the file is empty.

Is there a list already floating around vww with all the safety cameras around aus ?

Firstly, thanks to all for their efforts here.

I followed all of the instructions, and successfully updated FW (3974) and maps (v4.1). Used POI Inspector to put a .db3 file in a root directory on an SD card, and loaded it up. Found that the icons weren't formatted correctly, so again used POI Inspector to edit the icons to the right size, put the new file on the SD card, deleted the old POI database from the RNS 510, and reloaded the SD card.

The card loaded up, and the file details are showing that the data is there. When I go to "Extras" on the map, and select POI's "Personal POI" is shown on the screen, but when I touch it nothing happens. I was thinking to start the whole process (FW/Maps/SD) again, but if anyone knows what's happening I'd appreciate the info. Thanks.

All, I am currently on FW3970 but when I go for the Kamold build for the partitions it says unable to upgrade and gives me a version code which is the same as the version already installed. Is there a tweak which I do not have to downgrade? If I must downgrade any recommend a version and file location?

Try this. Load the disc with the kamold build (ignition key out of ignition). Wait until you get the error message that you've described. After it comes up simultaneously press the Setup, Eject, and Info buttons on the RNS 510. This should force the disc to boot and install the kamold version.
