Interestingly, the person who gave the negative feedback wanted to purchase a "BMW NAVIGATION DISC AUS & NZ V17 2011".

Now assuming the V4 map is the only map this guy has ever sold, then I don't know who really was at fault! Dumb or Dumber?

Just picked up my 2011 Octavia vRS. Enabled diag menu and its running 7360 maps.
The plot may (or may not) have thickened.
I'll post some screenies of the full diag pages tomorrow, going to bed...

Interestingly, you're only on FW 2724.

Certainly with VW MY11 vehicles, someone has confirmed already that they're getting FW 2840 on their stock unit.

That was me (who got 2840) on my stock unit in MY11.5 GTI.

The map version I got is still only 7005 (V3 i believe).

I just did a run to Brisbane and back to Sydney using the V4 upgrade, where there was a lot of road works in progress it was still not perfect ,while using the old road i passed under new overpasses and it showed them other times while traveling next to the new N1 it showed nothing but the road i was on . I though it would show all of the new upgrades to the N1 but didn't.

Again ... refer to post #28

                    Basically, V4 map is actually a 2009 Q4 compilation!

                    So is old as!!!

                    • Why are the vehicle manufacters so slow to update their nav data? I can understand maybe not being quite as nimble as the portable GPS providers however lagging so far behind is at the least lazy, and at worst dangerous....

                      • Maybe it's the portable GPS providers have contracts with the map data companies (sensis) to have exclusive regular update, thus blocking out all the auto manufacturers from having regular updates too?

I don't know, call me a cynic, but I just can't believe that if the auto makers COULD, that at least one of them hasn't decided to start releasing free quarterly updates to their GPS data and marketting that as an advantage etc...

                        • Maybe we should all start writing to vw/Audi/skoda australia to complain. Maybe they don't think it's an issue??

If that were so, then there'd only be one portable GPS with that facility — the others would be out in the cold (lost in a wilderness?) with the rest of us...

Besides, quite apart from the frequency of updates, compare the map coverage of any portable with the crap the car makers foist off on us.

We have devices with far more available storage than any portable, that cost more for a mere map update than you'd pay for a portable, and yet have maps that cover only the most trafficked areas — if, as I sometimes do, I go into an outback area I need to carry paper maps or a portable — my uber-expensive in-dash device becomes useless.

Many country towns are only covered to as far as the street lighting extends, if that (example: check the environs of Briagolong, VIC — a town that's existed far longer than I have, and I'm pushing 90.)

I don't think I'm being at all cynical to suggest that the reason lies buried in a number of corporate hip pockets...

                            • I have obtained and installed a copy of V4 maps on my system (previously running V3). All worked fine.

The only point to note (other actual roads of which I have not found a road to exits where it did not, or vice versa on either V3 or V4 maps) not that I go that far afield - is that on the toll roads leading out of Melbourne, the lovely lady (the bitch as she's called in my car) now tells me 'the next toll post is in 1km', at 1km intervals before this toll post. It's something new although did get a bit annoying although I can see the benefits of it. I have no option to turn thos off, and have no idea at present what firmware I am running (the setup hold button trick is not activated in mine) so maybe newer firmware would provide this. But an interesting addition no less...

hehehe... not necessarily! It wouldn't be the first time that a group of companies has banded together to the detriment of another group of companies
