No ... definitely for the MFD2 units and not RNS510.

These units can only accept CDs. Hence the map disc being sold is CD and not DVD.

Go back to the Sensis V16 page and click on the link of compatible vehicles.

    They're all pre-June 2008 models!

Most compelling proof: Tiguan or Golf Mk6 are not listed (compatible)!

The RNS510 map is only 460 MB hence the CD...

I think ppl are missing the point! I'm talking about the Sensis CD not the eBay CD.

Some of us are merely trying to correct the misconception that this copy CD on eBay is the same as the one sold by Sensis.

The one sold on Sensis for $199 is for the MFD2. The CD on eBay is for the MFD3 (a.k.a. RNS510).

It's the wrong price comparison being drawn by dArK5HaD0w (initially) that Idle appears to be supporting also.

RNS510 maps are produced and sold by VW! You cannot buy them from Sensis!
However the underlying database for Australian RNS510 maps are sourced from Sensis!

At the moment, the fcuking problem is whoever is responsible for refreshing the Australian RNS510 maps is fcuking taking their time.

Not only is the database used outdated and appears to be getting worse! But the underlying file structures used hasn't changed since the V3 map and does not support newer functions offered in FW versions above 2760 (for aftermarket units) and 2840 (for stock units). Namely POIs ... whereby you will fcuking lose all your POIs (if you try and run the map disk on any higher FW version).

This is not the experience with other countries (particularly with Europe RNS510 maps)!

But here's another fcuking problem ... the higher FW versions are pre-loaded on the latest RNS510 units (by eBay sellers in Europe), cause they don't have this file structure problem with their European maps and don't realise the latest Australian v4 map is not compatible with the pre-loaded software on say their D units.

In a nutshell, if you see any unit sold with any 3XXX series FW version pre-loaded on it. It's a waste of time at the moment!

You'll need to downgrade the FW in order to have a fully functional Australian map with working POIs (whether it's a V3 or V4 map).

I'm hoping some ex-employee of NASA may go for this "Australian map update" job that the current fcukwit is sucking at doing!

Well, I'm not confused — I know the difference, and the disc I have coming is specified in the ad as being for the RNS510 as used in VW and Skoda (called Columbus in Skoda, but so far as I know the same unit) and Seat. That Seat is no longer sold here is probably irrelevant.

Excerpt from the ad: "RNS 510 MFD3 Latest Sat Nav CD disc V4 2010/11 Australia & New Zealand. Suits Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda."

Nowhere does it mention MFD2 — when/if it arrives I'll stick it in the computer and check.

It has occurred to me that perhaps this seller has bought the $100 copy being offered by the "BMW"? guy who never wants to mail them and is getting his money back with a bit of interest — if so he has a lot more cheek than I.

As to its being a CD rather than a DVD, if the data will fit there's little difference — the same machinery reads and writes both and the cost of either media is trivial.

I used my mate's copy from that ebayer and it worked, it felt like a really long process though, because it has to be download onto the HDD.

On a side note why do you say don't expect the ad to be up for long?

              • Depends on whether the powers that be catch up with the seller — bargain or not, it's still copyright software.

He's sticking his neck out quite a way...

No need ... again the confusion we're all talking about is with the CD sold online by Sensis.

That's only for MFD2 units and clearly marked v16 map.

And not your copy CD from eBay, which I'm sure is a v4 map for MFD3 units.

Thanks to technopato I installed v4 maps and note minor road system improvements for the Sunshine Coast, but the data is clearly old. I was offered a choice of routes, though, which I hadn't seen before.

                        That's a setting for the rns510 - not a feature of v4 maps.
you can either turn on/off the option to "Suggest 3 Alternative Routes" at the start of each navigation.
                        by default, this is off.
its there in ur rns510 settings - under "Setup Navigation" menu.

i have that turned on on mine, and i'm using the v3 maps.

i too have ordered the v4 maps.....at a bargain price
i'm not expecting much gains though. curiosity got the better of me.

Thanks, dArK5HaD0w, I must have turned the routes option off a year ago when I got the car and the upgrade must have turned it back on. I'm getting old.

                          • So far, having used the V4 maps for a few weeks now, have not noticed any differences around Melbourne other than the irritating "1km to the toll point" on a frequent basis which gets rather annoying on a long journey.

I don't mind the toll notices...went thru to Sydney with the family last week, and it sure was handy for digging out change for the machines in plenty time.

Makes sense - but the toll roads here in Melbourne are mostly electronic so no actual physical toll being paid - just deducted from your account. Thus of little use and seemingly no option to turn this off...
