But I've been burnt before getting excited over the V4 map.
So maybe V4.1 actually has the correct file structure?

Actually can you outline the contents of the disk and post it up for a line by line compare?

The file should be something like this: cdrom.toc in the root directory and you just need to open it in MS Word to view.

Below is the content of this file for the V4 map:

    • The fact that they are still 2009Q4 maps is sad , perhaps it does include POI's for firmware 3xxx, because if the maps are the same, what else could they possibly change?

      • Cheers for that Klink1313!

But yeah ... very disappointing yet again from whoever the fcuk is dishing these out!

Anyhow the only questions left is whether you are using 3xxx series FW?

But if it's a stock unit, then it's probably still using 2xxx series FW (in which case POIs will work).

        • I am in shock at how poor these maps can be. I went down to the Mornington Peninsula on the weekend to visit some friends who live in Blairgowrie. The damn thing didn't have the suburb at all! Why is it that my 3 year old TomTom can find it, my $50 Navigon iPhone app can find it, but a RNS510 worth a couple of grand is incapable....

My stock system is still using the 2xxx FW.

            • My system is still running 2620 (I think) from when I first got it and POIs work ok (have ATMs, petrol stations, car parks, etc showing).
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Markups! — it's because those who are ripping off their captive market for outdated and cut-down maps won't spend the money to provide anything better.

i heard we can use the BMW maps on our system. Maybe those are better?

                  • It appears the RNS510 is manufactured by Continental AG:

Our Goal: Healthy Mobility - clean, safe and connected. Our heart beats for this. Learn more about it on our homepage.

Perhaps they supply to other manufactures as suggested by vraptor and more up-to-date maps are available that way? Or are these units in some way locked to VW maps?

I believe you need to extract and re-compile, as folder structures are different!

Not a simple task ... and most definitely will lose or have no POIs at all.

To still be based on 2009 Q4 map database is just fcuken unacceptable!

Are we just a third world market or something and not worth the upkeep?

I just wish there was a real way to make them do something about it!

As oppose to just bitching about it in this thread for so many pages.

Hey there guys, just before i go ahead with this downgrade.

                        - If i downgrade from 3800 to 2760, will I be able to upgrade back in the future no problems?
                        - is there more chance of failure seeing as being firmware 3xxx i have 3 partitions?
                        - will i miss anything downgrading?

                        thanks!

                        • You can upgrade/downgrade at will there is no limit.
If you want upgrade to a 3xxx series firmware in the future it will repartition your drive to three partitions and you have to reload the map data.

What i mean is, because I am already on 3 partitions, will downgrading repartition it to 2?

                            • I think so.

Whenever you change between major versions of firmware (i.e the first digit of the version number changes) then you lose all your music on the HDD, so it's safe to say it re-creates the partitions.

                              • Correct. I have done this downgrade before and as mentioned it will automagically repartition the hdd to 2 partitions.
