    • Does upgrading maps wipe your HDD in any way (music partition)? I don't think I need to upgrade (I don't often go into 'new' areas) but it's always nice to keep up with what's new.

No! Only when you upgrade or downgrade software/firmware from version 2xxx to 3xxx (and vice versa).

          • Just an update. I went and picked up my map disc from the dealer yesterday. I was given a v4.1 disc so it looks like v4.1 is the new vw std

            • Any chance you a) have firmware version 3xxx and can confirm POI's work, and/or b) wish to mail/FTP me a copy =P?

The numbering sequence, doesn't look promising for working POIs.
But I've been burnt before getting excited over the V4 map.
So maybe V4.1 actually has the correct file structure?

Actually can you outline the contents of the disk and post it up for a line by line compare?

The file should be something like this: cdrom.toc in the root directory and you just need to open it in MS Word to view.

Below is the content of this file for the V4 map:

                • Was kind of hoping that 4.1, was 4.0 maps + POI's, hence the .1 , but then again newer maps might be better...

                  • I was told today that 4.1 has POI. Can't confirm if it's true though.

                    • yes, 4.1 has POI, and that is what VW will be supplying from now.

                      • where do you get 4.1? not on ebay?

                        Comment

                        • All the previous versions (V3 & V4) had POI.

It's not like they were missing or left off.

But problem was they are only functional using 2XXX series FW.

If stock units delivered from factory now are running 3XXX series FW or at least higher than 2840, then that's a good start!

If the actual series of POI files on the disk are NOT stored in this directory: \TABLES\0\ and NOT with an .idx file extension ... only then do I see things looking promising.

So my advice would be to wait and see!

Hopefully Klink1313 is prepared to confirm this much (for now) for the greater of the community.

I doubt it. First time I saw it was yesterday.

I wonder who will shell out the $400+ to get it legally?

                            • Judging by the contents of the 'Is the RNS510 worth $2500?' thread, I'm guessing not too many.

If I stumble across it I might have a go, otherwise I'm fairly happy with what I've got (i.e. none of the new features appeal to me that much)
