    • Bugger. I was really hoping to be able to answer incoming calls with the steering wheel.

          • Apologies for asking something that might be answered elsewhere in this thread, but while it is a fantastic resource, it is difficult to glean exactly the information I want from its 50+ pages. So I'm hoping one of the resident experts might be able to answer my question.

I'm about to buy a late (December build) 08 Golf V Pacific 2.0TD. It has an RNS510 with nav, that I assume was factory installed (car has loads of options so was probably a special order). However, the car does not have bluetooth. I would like to install a BT module, one that will allow browsing of the phone's phonebook, and accept and end calls from the steering wheel controls. I'd also like to do BT audio streaming, preferably with playback controls. Track name and whatnot on the screen/MFD would be nice, but not necessary. Voice commands/tags likewise would be nice, but not at all necessary. Basically, I test drove a brand new Octavia last week, and want that kind of functionality, but in a Golf if possible.

I gather it can depend on which MFD and steering wheel you have. This is not a picture of the exact car, but the MFD and steering wheel in the one I'm looking at are the same as those in this pic:

So, if someone could tell me whether there exists a unit that will do all this, I would be very grateful. Is any other info needed? The car is in another state, but if it's easily accessible with a button press or suchlike, I'd probably be able to get the seller to find out the version, bus and firmware.

Thanks so much in advance to anyone can help! I'm getting excited about my potential new car!

            • If you read from say Page 45 and beyond you should get the most relevant info.

I would normally associate a 2008 Golf with the old red MFD which is not 100% compatible with the newest BT modules, but if you are certain that you have the white MFD+ (which hopefully is the same as all the other MK6 Golfs) then you should be fine using the newest one.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

                Thanks for the response.

If someone can show me how to post a pic I have on my hard drive onto the forum, I can post a pic of the actual car, sent to me by the seller, to eliminate doubt. I can see the "image" button above, but it's only html script for an image already somewhere on the web. Other forums I've used allow you to add an attachment to a post. Am I missing something?

                    • Looks like any other 2009 MK6 Golf - so it should be fine. Don't yell at me if I'm wrong, though

                          • Installed my 9W7 tonight. Works perfectly. At first i plugged the 9W7 piggy back cable after the MDI piggy back cable and got no sound. Switched them around and everything works. (had me worried for a bit there)

When i plug my iPhone 4 into the MDI (to charge it) it disables the bluetooth audio streaming so you have to plays music via the MDI. (this is better for me anyway as i get song info. on the MFD and steering wheel button controls work)

My steering wheel buttons wont operate the 9W7 for calls and no call info. is displayed on my red MFD.

Does anyone know where you can get a white MFD from?
Or will the 9W7 show call details on this MFD?

                            • Perhaps, but we don't know much about retrofitting the MFI since it needs online coding (which is something a dealer must do), and given how many of them out there who have been a bit useless at performing simple VAG COM coding this could prove to be difficult to install.
