No everything was factory installed. I thought with the RCD510 the Bluetooth is responsible for the voice control whereas the RNS510 has voice control built in?

    • You could be right; I've only read into the RNS510 since that's what I have.

No worries. Hopefully someone has the same setup and knows what the issue is?

        • Didn't think this was possible?

I recently bought the 9W7 and installed on an RCD510 and was provided a diagram/picture of what cables to connect in the event it was installed on an RNS510 to activate voice control - Needless to say I didn't bother considering it (supposedly) doesn't work on RCD510's??.......

How does the voice control work?

          • I think that with the RCD510 and BT you can use voice control (if setup and coded correctly in VCDS) to perform Phone functions (calling, address book, etc), but the RNS510 allows you to use voice control for other things (controlling media playback, navigation, etc) in addition (again, if wired correctly and setup in VCDS).

Can anyone who has this working post their auto-scan from VCDS? or advise what they did to get it going? was any additional wiring required?

              • Hi guys. I've bought the 9W7 kit from Bluewagen. I have an MY10 with the factory fitted voice control for the RNS 510 already enabled.
For those of you who have the factory mic already installed, was it just a matter of pulling out pin 1 and 7 from the car harness and splicing it into the piggyback harness? or did you wire in the second mic.
I pulled out my RNS 510 and climatronic just to have a look and spent a bit of time looking at the connections. Looks like Mic should go to Mic in on RNS 510 and then Mic out from RNS 510 to bluetooth module.
Any tips would be appreciated. I just put everything back together and haven't installed the 9W7 yet. Happy for any input before I have a real go on the weekend including how best to splice the wires....is it ok to just twist and cover with electrical tape or better to try to place in the pin holes directly.....I have no pin removal tool.
Thanks. Sorry for the newbie question.
                Ray.

i bought the bt wiring harness from bluewagen for my 9wz install.
it was a simple plug-n-play with my factory installed rns510.
i didn't have to do anything with regards to the mic for voice-control (factory installed) either. the wiring harness is setup by default to make the bt use the rns510's factory installed mic.

if u want to use the bt's mic, then there was some pin swapping required i believe.

also the older bt wiring harness required splicing & swapping as they weren't "factory installed voice control" friendly.

Thanks darkshadow. I installed it tonight works well......mine wasn't factory voice friendly so had to cut the factory wires and joined them by crimping using some audio crimps i bought from jaycar today. Didn't want to risk tape coming apart in heat. Anway 9w7 works well. Will code over weekend to enable steering wheel button.

Aaah i just went through the old posts and found your harness with a single microphone input.....mine was quite different!

                    • Was just browsing the CarSystems.pl website and noticed this module supports skipping music tracks ans showing ID3 tags via Bluetooth Streaming:

                      • Sounds like a great upgrade in functionality! Would love to control music playing from my iPhone via BT from the RNS or steering wheel.

I have a 9W7 currently, so does that mean you simply swap modules under the seat over?

                          • Great!

One other question, MDI audio stopped working after I installed my 9W7 kit, still plays but no audio comes through the speakers.

I read about swapping plugs between quadlock's, but can't seem to find the actual description of what I need to do to get it to work?
                            Anyone have a link?

                            Thanks in advance,

                            • The piggy-back quadlock connector you installed probably doesn't have all the wires that the original connector had, so they've stopped at that dead end and don't connect to the HU.

                              • Ah, so one of them must be the line to aux-in for MDI I assume? Is there an easy fix for this, or will I have to make up a loom to run between?
