  • You don't have an old bluetooth kit installed so you can't upgrade, get the 5K0... one for 200 EUR. Make sure you've read the installation guides and are confident you can get it working before purchasing.

Changing the box would imply you are reading instructions for a replacement unit - in which case you have a mic already installed. If you don't have bluetooth at all, then you need to install the bluetooth and the PnP wiring, and the mic as well.
Or have we got it wrong?

            • Correct. I had to put the mic in my car.

Just need a flexible but strong cable to use to get from the a pillar to the overhead console so you can attach the mic cable and pull it back through. Everything is pretty easy if you're good at following guides. Then you need to get a hold of VCDS.

                • I have just installed the 7P6035730J which I ordered from car systems.pl. Great service. Order placed on Sunday, package arrived on Thursday. Full tracking as well via UPS.

The 7P6035730J is a great unit, which I cannot fault. I never had Bluetooth previously, so I ordered the retrofit kit, and it can with the Mic, unit and wiring. Installation was pretty straight forward, as they supplied instructions via the web site. There is also instructions on the VCDS changes kicking around on this forum somewhere.

All up it took me about 1.5 hours, as I decided to mount the BT unit under the passenger seat for ease of access should I need to upgrade it in the future. Hardest part of the install was getting the wire for the mic through the headlining. I just used an old metal coat hanger to feed through and then used it to pull the mic wire through.

The 7P6035730J unit supports bluetooth audio streaming from my iPhone, as well as next/previous track selection using the steering wheel buttons. Display shows the usual track info (artist, album, song title, time elapsed/remaining). When listening to digital radio (via tunein app) the radio station is displayed, as well as the track info).

                  Overall, I am very happy.

                  • Hope Tune-In hurry up and update the Android version with that feature

What software version was printed on the sticker on your BT module?

                      • Ah good, even later than my one. Would be good if there was a way to flash update the software for BT modules.

                        • Hey Jords, I got the same installation kit from Carsystems (and the actual bluetooth module off ebay - a bit cheaper). What did you do with the 2 2-pin white connectors on the bluetooth loom? Pretty sure they're something to do with the microphone. They're not mentioned in the instructions.

                          • I did wonder about those, but left them alone. Maybe there for the voice commands, as that is the only thing that doesn't work, but I would never use it, so didn't worry to much about it.

                              • Ah good that should help loads, you have the MDI too which I have. I've got a rear camera and PDC kit coming too. Gonna be a squeeze.

A word of warning for anyone doing this in an Octavia - take off the climate control facia (4 torx) and thread the MDI and bluetooth cables through from there, not the radio hole (or have a good think about it) because there isn't any room behind the radio for the chunky connectors but a fair bit beneath.
