My mate who was going to help me install it hasn't had the time and I've already survived 2 summers without it, if I installed it now I wouldn't get a lot of time out of it if I was to get the Mk7 GTI and I wouldn't get anything for it if I sold my car with it installed.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The great big MK6 Golf 118TSI tuning thread
Are you thinking of selling because of dsg issues? I'm considering a remap but I've been watching the recall you guys got over there and wondering if VW will expand the dates and countries.

Not really. It sits in the back of your mind but it's not causing me any grief since I had mine replaced last year. I've still got warranty for another 14 months too.
The tune in itself won't cause issues, but I'd recommend resisting the urge to put the car under a lot of load at low RPM with Stage 1, yes the supercharger and extra torque will get you going and yes it does sound awesome but in my experience that's probably not going to help long-term reliability. Also shifting manually under full load (although a TAI helps with that).Last edited by Ryan_R; 29-06-2013, 10:18 PM.

Well next time we have a 46.5 C day down here (according to the car) I'll be able to let you know
On most hot days the Intake temp sits at around 50 C, so if it is indeed a 30% improvement then I should see the temps at around 35 C I suppose.
Having the DSG oil changed from synthetic to mineral however has also made a noticeable difference to hot weather driving (although I haven't done much stop/start in hot weather yet since the freeways are quiet).
See what happens when you do too many spirited drives in the twisties

could anybody tell me if these 118Tsi modifications that are listed in this thread are still applicable to the 118Tsi engine that is found in my 2014 beetle ?
Once the car get's a few km's on it i would like to extract a little more power from it.
from the photo's on the previous pages the engine bay on my beetle looks identical.
im interested in the following
*APR tune
*Intercooler upgrade
*short shifter for 6sp manual
*Exhaust and intake upgrade
Is this doable ?

Don't know anything about the Beetle sorry

It looks like it's the same 1.4L Twincharged engine so I'd guess pretty much all parts will transfer across, but that's still no guarantee.
Short Shifter
Your gearbox is probably the MQ250 the same as mine and uses this shifter (which is awesome):
VW short shift kit for MK5 5 speed
I've used the MK3 variant (which is highly sought after) and this new one which is also brilliant. Well worth the investment and easy enough to fit if a little fiddly.
Engine Tune
What's your engine code? I believe the newer variant of the twincharger in the Polo GTI can't be tuned due to new encryption but don't know which engine they are using in The Beetle.
S3 Intercooler
Probably. It fits in place of the stock unit with little modification to the pipes... so probably.
Exhaust
Off the shelf?? who knows. If it's being custom made, then it's really not a question. But be aware that there isn't a downpipe for the 118TIS that I am aware of which leaves you with cat back systems only.
Intake
I haven't seen the engine bay so can't really comment, but most are made to fit specific mountings so it's a huge maybe.
Bottom line though, it looks like that particular model/engine combo is available in the UK so there is a chance someone is making parts for it.
