That's what i like to hear!!! Good to see you're still around the forum, Blower!

I managed to pick up a cheap, lightly used twincharger k03 turbo, which is on the car now. It's better than the old one and is working hard with the Stage 2 map now but my plan is to pull the old one apart, port out the exhaust manifold, polish it up and put in a Melett CHRA. Not exactly a hybrid but should go alright.

Ha! A long, long time ago. I've got a spare 1.4 TSI engine lying around and the car is basically going to be kept as a run around so it's always tempting to play with.

I'm just going to leave these here in case anyone wants to make some poor financial decisions (or try and talk me into them)

Yeah, I'm in the cab most days, just not for long. Many more hours in the Van with the family.

As for rebuild, im hopeful that it won't come to that but if it ever did the plan is to drop a GTI motor and gearbox in it instead to more permanently solve the problem. I don't know if I could talk VW into offsetting any of that cost, although I can dream. Again, hopefully it's not needed and if history is anything to go on, it's likely to just be fouled plugs or something simple *knock on wood*

Keep an eye on the number of twincharger owners posting about their compression failures on these forums. Granted a few more are getting goodwill repairs nowadays but nothing is guaranteed. $4500-$6000 parts and labour to rebuild seems to be the going rate. I also struggled to find a buyer and valuation took a hit (perhaps less of an issue with the cab). Fortunately I somewhat offset this by finding a very nice Audi for a very low price.

It sounds like you spend more time on these forums than you do in your cabrio

In any case, it's due it's first major service (with 27k on the clock ) and is booked in for Wednesday so we will see what happens then.

It was serviced this week, first major service, and it all checked out OK, compression OK etc. New plugs seem to have solved the misfire, tested on cold it's not happening and when warm it's always run fine. The N249 errors are apparently down to the GFB DV+ and spring making the computer think the N249 isn't working correctly. Anyway, it's all humming away nicely for now so I'm happy
So one year on it's started doing it again this morning (so I haven't had a chance to warm it up properly and make sure it goes away). Funnily enough it's also due for it's annual service (going in on Thursday), so will get that looked at again, but it feels just the same as I remember from last year.

Last time around it had done just under 27,000km, now it's only just over 30,000km. I have refilled the tank only ***nine times*** in the last year! (and that includes a 800km trip to Albury and back for VITS in April and drving to work in the city for a few weeks during the level crossing removals. That's only an average of 10km / day... that has been down as low as 4km/day in sept/oct/nov last year.

I barely drive this car enough to do it justice, but I still need a car and it's not worth selling this one (and I love it).

The problem is that the station is (only) just too far for me to want to walk in a suit & tie, but really is too close to drive. What I need is an electric push bike/scooter/skateboard or something for the short journey... something that doesn't need rego or insurance... problem is then I need to have some way to secure it (since I don't want to take it on a train to the city).

Speaking of intakes... while cleaning the car this weekend I noticed that both screws holding the intake to the front vent hole were missing. I've souced a couple of similar screws and put them in. But a good reminder to anyone with an intake to check your screws since aftermarket ones likely put more stress on those screws.
