Because you can?? There's plenty of small sub groups of nut bags willing to push the limits just for the fun of it all

    Love it.

The idea of making a giant killer out of a humble 1.4 engine is pretty delicious if you have money to burn. I'd love to see him get that thing to 403hp and crack 300kW.

    That is epic!!!

+1 This thread is good for Q&A but I'm sure many of us will keenly follow your progress in a build thread.

That deserves its own thread for sure. If you post it here it will eventually get lost on page 42 of 200 and something. Maybe make a new thread and put the link in here...?

Do you have the leather seats? I really wish I had leather seats, and I want a flat-bottom steering wheel. I have conti maxcontact tyres on my new rims. They are awesome!!! I kinda skipped out on the basics when my car broke, I don't even have lowered springs yet!!!
Mate, i used to have the fabric seats when i bought the car but the previous owners son had been sitting in the seats in a wet wetsuit so it stank to high hell. I found some grey leather seats from a Mk V 2008 golf which are a direct fit. Got them for $400 bucks from a wrecker and sold the airbags from my old seats for $250 so it worked out pretty cheap. Got a seat wiring loom for $90 and got it all installed no problem. Even when the flat and bolstering wears out you can get them sanded and re dyed pretty cheap. Even a full re upholstering of the front seats leather isn't that expensive.

Keep your eye out man, you never know what's going to pop up in the classifieds!

Blower, I know your pain re the steering wheel. I've found a few for about AUD 750 cheapest with an airbag. The crazy thing is the Mk 7 ones are actually cheaper than the Mk VI, although they do look better. There's a few out there cheap without airbags but then there's pain of getting an airbag and cover.

I've got the VWR sport springs on mine and the spring rate is very comfortable, even with the Whiteline sway bars on medium setting it's a very nice ride. The car stays nice and flat through the bends.

I'm after the flat bottom steering wheel too - one from a Golf R would look great, they are just so expensive!. No lowering on mine, but i don't like to mess too much with the suspension for fear of spoiling the ride quality. I also have DCC, so lowering is limited - although the rear could do with lower springs, perhaps just GTI springs, as the gap there is large due to the car being spec'ed with 18" wheels and me now putting on 17".

Even though i love leather interior - to me it only looks good for a few years, after that leather always seems to turn into a bag of wrinkles so unless i intend to buy a car from new and get rid of it within 5 years i tend to avoid it.

Next thing for me is to sort out the tune on this car, I am also considering doing something about the cat/exhaust for a stage 2 tune....but i have not been impressed with the aftermarket options for the downpipe. As you have pointed out they are considerably narrower on the CAT - i'm dubious if there is that much less restriction vs stock - im unsure just what the CEL rating is on the stock CAT, but with the stock having what looks to be double the cross sectional surface area than the narrow aftermarket sport cat's then unless the stock is 800 cell vs 200 cell of aftermarket - the flow gains will be minimal.

I want to fit a real EGT sensor to the exhaust manifold of the turbo, so i can get a real reading on what the EGT's are, instead of the calculated guesswork reading you get from the ECU. That's the only way to tell if you are getting any real world gains from 'better' exhaust/CAT setups.
