Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Gents, just a quick question on hardware for the install- went down to reco today and asked for the parts for the s3 FMIC install and just released they have me 2 and 3/4 inch hose clamps and the right size bolts just with a socket head- will these units still be suitable, particularly the larger hose clamp?

I went to purchase some coolant from VW in preparation for the intercooler swap later this month and of course they were very suspicious as to why I'd need two bottles of G12++ for a MK6 Golf. When I mentioned that my radiator (as I described it) wasn't coping well in the heat, and 'after doing some research' found that the Audi S3 one was better and compatible, I just got a raised eyebrow and a "good luck with that".

Also looking at the Extended warranty PDS and it mentions the need to declare any mods (not sure if APR software counts as a mod, or if retrofitted accessories count).

So how have you guys been getting along with your dealer since upgrading?

If your open this Saturday I could possibly drive down from Tbar. I am running a forge intake atm. If the Carbonio fits can it please stay on my car?

Just get some new black screws from Supercheap / Repco etc. They come in little packs for about $5.

Can anyone shed any light on solutions?

Ryan, gave that a go but they both slipped out while driving, would appear that the thread on the plastic that the screw goes into has been deformed and doesn't lock the screw in any more, rather then the screw being deformed.

Over size screws perhaps? If not, see if you can install a screw with a nut on the end?

Ended up going down that route Lucas, so all fixed now. Also had the intercooler installed today and am loving that extra pull up top!

Don't know how but I've got a nice big gouge in my charged air pipe which has been making my car sound like I've got a Forge CAI and has been reducing power. Will grab a replacement from a spare parts car and swap it over tomorrow hopefully.

Then I've got the car booked in at VW next week, and hope to get the S3 FMIC installed soon after.

^^ That would be leaking like a bitch. Gaffa tape is your friend until you can source a new pipe.

Stuck some duct tape on there (wrapped around a few times) and the resulting performance was obviously better, but the sound 20x worse. Imagine trying to play a gum-leaf as some sort of kazoo (instrument) but much higher pitched and way louder. Undid that solution and will bear having the leak for one more day. Only gotta go to the train station and back tomorrow.

Looks like something sharp ran along the side of it; can see after the gash the scratch that runs around the hose.

You can get a rubber tape that essentially fuses to the rubber you wrap it to with abit of heat; will seal properly unlike tape, but regardless still a temporary fix until you replace the entire hose.

Hehe, and here I was thinking APR might have given me too much power for the various components to handle. Should have the hose swapped tomorrow night. A friend has access to a garage where a wrecked 118 is there to scavenge from.
