      • You won't believe it.. But i've got some stuff done on the Mk1. Just like i said i would!

Started yanking the engine bay wiring back through the firewall etc, so that i can get the bay sand blasted and then get it painted.. (What an abortion!)

Starting pic. After i had removed the Grill etc.

        The wiring..

Here it is, dragged back through.

Just some of the cable ties and wire that wasn't connected to anything.

There was also many wires in the loom that had been doubled over and taped up. So much stuff had to be untied, untaped.. Etc. It wasn't much fun. I was told a few years ago by my auto etc mate "The wiring in this car is that bad that if you're going to keep it for a while, you should consider rewiring the whole car."

Then onto removing the brake booster and bracketry etc..

After that i cleaned the brake booster (and drained the brake fluid out of it..), then blasted it, rubbed it back and primed it.

        Meanwhile...

Stay tuned. I have motivation again and i may as well make the most of it!

        • What fuel pressure reg are you going to use?

You wiring this again with a different loom?

I'll just run a low pressure in line pump with an adjustable inline FPR. I only need about 3 or 4 PSI for the carburettors. Not sure whether i'll use the return. I'll probably block it off. It doesn't need a return if you make sure you don't have to much fuel pressure.

Yeah once i get everything sorted, I've organised for Tim to come up and rewire everything. But that's after I put the engine in and have it all done. I'm going to run MSD 6AL ignition too.

Haha cheers dude. It took me the best part of around 2 hours to untangle and feed that wiring.

Although i don't know why you're taking notes.. There isn't that much valuable info here.

If you run a rotary vane pump like a Carter you won't need the reg at all.

Mine will flow 72 GPH and keeps the fuel pressure right on 6psi right up to 7500 rpm. That's with a GLD fuel line. Race proven

However, Tim and I made a pact.

-We have to work on our cars every weekend (or through the week if possible) that there is not something on.
-If one doesn't work on their car (without a legitimate excuse), the other doesn't have to work on their car the following weekend.
-If one doesn't work on their car (without a legitimate excuse) for 2 weekends in a row, they owe the other a 6 pack of Jimmy cans.

Sound fair? We reckon so! haha.

Wow. That's nice and neat. I like it. If you can, i'd love to get the part number off you.

No FPR would ultimately be much better. I just didn't want to have to jerk around with the pump blowing the needle off the seat etc etc.. You know what i mean.

                      Haha- "Race Proven". Nice.

                      Thanks for the info, Pete!

                      • Your mates over at Rocket sell 'em

Mine's an oem one without the brightly coloured sticker.

I got it from the distributor, but for the life of me I can't remember their name.

I'll have to stick my head under there and grab you a part number.

Page 31 of my thread has the install pics.

Now that's what I call a good Idea!

I reckon you'll owe me a slab by the end of May!!!!!!!!!

Good to see your making some progress again. Even its only little pissy jobs. Its still getting something done.

An hour here & there can make all the difference!!!!

                            OH!!!

For those not sure. I'm not working on the GTI or a VW. I'm being motivated to work on my Chevy Truck!

                                Hahaha.

If we're going off past build time lines, then I must be the king & so far in front, I'm owed a pallet of Jimmy!!!

                                Hahaha

We've based it on the honesty system & its one of the few ways to get each other motivated to get s$%t done on our long running projects!

I reckon if more people found a way to get motivated to get there projects done, there would be less 3 year builds which should have only taken a few months & more VW's on the road!
I know money can be a pain in the arse when building cars, but I'm sure there are heaps of little things that can be done without burning a hole in your pocket.
