Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Spent a few nights this week sorting out cam angle sensor.

Had to make a hybrid of a new KR hall effect sensor and an ABF housing so I could use the single window rotating vane.

Don't need to distribute spark so I made a cap.

I need a cam angle sensor to run coil per cylinder and sequential injection.

        • Started bolting down the electrical stuff.

Here's the switch box a little closer and a little less green.

Battery is bolted down in that position now.

Made a cage for the ECU and bolted it in.

Found somewhere to mount the logger.

Interior taking shape. I had to put the seat back in so I could position the switches.

Routed and secured the hoses in the engine bay.

          • Installed the fire system.

One nozzle in the engine bay.

Battery cutoff on the left and fire extinguisher on the right.

There's still decals to put on to mark the functions.

Second nozzle in the cabin pointed at the driver's midriff.

Still have to clip down some of the cables and hoses.

            • Hi torque starter motor.

These are a geared unit and look to be an adaption of the 16v Toyota starters.

As supplied it was a little too close to the radiator so I removed the adapter plate and reworked it to rotate the starter into a new position.

                • Roll cage padding can go in now.

This is the new spec SFI style padding, it's really dense and is easier to work with.

                        • CAMS came out and sealed the motor last night.

Sump and head are wired on and tagged.

Now to press on with the rest of the assembly.

                                It's an Hafco HM-46 M123 | HM-46 Mill Drill - Geared & Tilting Head | machineryhouse.com.au

There's cheaper and dearer options depending on the column style and accessories.

I've fitted a power feed on the x axis. For Christmas I might buy myself a DRO to go it.

It's a good size for working on car stuff, It's a Mill/Drill so it's pretty versatile.

I just made a new drawbar for it so I use a wider range of tooling.

They come with a 1/2" whitworth drawbar whereas all the cheap tools on ebay are M12..

Of course The minute I get around to making a metric drawbar I discover that you can buy them on ebay for $19
