Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

looking great pete! really finishes off the front end!
by the way, i installed the carter 4070 fuel pump - it's fantastic and 100% better than the facet pump. just having some flooding issues in traffic now and was wondering what fuel pressure reg you used?

I didn't use a reg on the 4070, just straight into the carbs.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

Just to be clear is was talking about my old white race car. It's got twin dellortos fed directly by the 4070.
The Kamei car also has a 4070 but it's used to feed the fuel sump. Main pressure to the injectors is by a Bosch 044 submerged in the sump.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

Finally upgraded the brakes. This is a Tar.Ox 280mm 6 piston kit. Tarox | High Performance Brakes
As I have MK2 uprights I chose a MK2 kit. Interestingly Tar.Ox has been making these kits for the MK2 since the mid 80s
They clear the Varrstoen wheels fine, the G60 steelies need to be spaced out about 13mm to clear.
These end up being 4kg lighter per side than the Girling 60 calipers.

Here' some pics from PI today.
Conditions were poor to start with, improved a little just before the rain set in.
Despite the conditions I managed to break the 2 minute barrier and set a 1:58:9731 lap time.
New brakes are fantastic, exactly what I've been trying to achieve.
The powder coated Bell didn't take the heat cycling too well
The disc looks muddy because I brushed the dust off it with a wet glove.
Went into turn 12 too hot and chucked it sideways down the straight.
Grip was really poor all day long, I just couldn't get the tyres to come up to temp.
Started the day on wet tyres, changed to dry tyres, changed back to wets again. I'm a bit sick of changing wheels!
Got to turn on the heated windscreen and the rain lights.
I was having a hard time with rear grip and disconnected the rear sway bay which helped enormously.
More pics on the website.

Session 1 In car footage.
We were first out, the track was cold and traction was poor. Wasn't pushing it for this round as I had to test out the new brakes and bed them in.
Toyo R888 tyres for this session.
Session 2
On the Hoosiers now.
Session 3 - prior to restart
Back on the TOYO R888s now due to incoming rain. Sway bar disconnected for remainder of day.
Session 3 - After re start.
Session 4

If you're observant you'll see that I had to increase the top speed on the speedo in the videos. Previously I had the gauge read to 180kph, I hit 206 kph on Saturday so I had to bump the gauge up to read to 210.
I can (and will ) go faster but the conditions on Saturday weren't too great.
I also added a few more RPM to the limiter and increased the tacho range too.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car
