But did your downloaded file have all the bits required to update?
As some have said there is a complete folder missing.
I assume D/L from VW portal is not VIN-locked, like the Skoda portal is?
And I'm also worried about the "date of release" of the VW version - it's way back in April. How can it have taken 4 months to release it to the Skoda family? And is the Skoda d/l file any more recent than the VW version?

It's the same P71, and no VIN. Mrs used it this morning, said it was good as
And we all know how hopeless Skoda is, or has to be so its not better than VW
get your update from the VW portal - here.
its the P71 map.
it will work - just make sure u pick the Maps made for the Discover Pro
who knows when the P71 in the skoda portal will be updated!!
i downloaded it yesterday and the car updated successfully.
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I visited the forum although with my troubles in trying to download the map updates and after being advised it will cost $199 from Skoda Parramatta, I thought I should do some research! I now understand the Skoda download is missing a file and I am currently downloading the VW file.
Just an observation, I notice the zip file when unpacked included MIB1 and MIB2 as the two root directories, plus a metadata txt file. From what I have read, MIB2 is the latest which replaces MIB1? So why have both versions in one zip file?
Anyway I hope the VW files work better! Thanks for the posts, very educational!

Downloaded the P71 from the VW portal for the Discover Pro for my MY15 Octavia RS. Put it on the card and doesn't seem to want to update, although when I put the card it detects "software update", but it says the update file was invalid or something when I go to update in the navigation settings.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, or maybe the file from the VW portal isn't made for the MIB1. My map is still on the factory ROW2014/2015 and the Skoda portal says there's no update for the maps when I enter my VIN.

Slugoid, you'll probably need to go to a dealer and have them enable/renew the subscription in your car, as you cannot install new maps without the car being coded for them. Renewing will also allow your VIN to show new maps in the update portal.

Thanks for that. You're right that I'll need to take it to a dealer, cos I checked the VIN of a MY16 Octavia RS on the Skoda Portal and it seems they can get an update. So the cutoff seems to the anything MY15 or older. Just hope they don't charge me for the renewal because I rarely use the sat nav in the car (Google Maps/Waze is better and faster), I want to update just for the sake of updating really.
I wasted a whole day downloading that file on the VW portal with my pathetic ADSL+ connection chugging at 400KB/s . Worth the try at least.
Skoda CZ/HQ advised me a few days ago that they've rectified the issue with P71 MRM maps, and uploaded a new download file.
so technically, u should get the maps from the skoda update portal.
however, as Smart1 said, you'll need to get your dealer to "register" your car in the portal before you'll see any updates available based on ur VIN.
maps from the VW Portal don't require a VIN, and should work for u - as long as u pic the right one.
which one did u pick?
i used passat b8, and disover pro unit.
my columbus updated with no issues.
