A new map is available in the portal called MRM 2016/2017. The last version released in Nov 2015 was called ROW 2016, the ROW meaning 'rest of world'. Anyone know what MRM refers to and whether that applies to Australia?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Good find. It looks like it could be the right one. When I go to the portal a message says next update is in June 2016. I entered my VIN and it came up with MRM 2016/2017. Last week I installed ROW 2016 as our new car came with ROW 2015/2016. Now for another big download.Last edited by stu53; 05-06-2016, 12:11 PM.

My Octavia never came with the SD for the map, do you need that to be able to update the maps?

I've just managed to successfully update my Nav Data to the latest release and it all went smoothly. The file does take forever to download and in my case I managed to raise another two children and put them through university by the time all 20.6 GB dropped down through the ether. To be honest though it was perhaps 15 - 16 hours or so.
I've no idea what the 'MRM' stands for in the file name but this download aside from Australia does indeed include multiple countries again covering a lot of Africa, South America, Middle East, India, Asia and New Zealand........road trip anyone?
So there you have it. The second update since I took delivery of my Scout last October and aside from the length of time taken was a pain free experience.

Hmm mine came from the factory in Jan with the 2016 but it had said on the portal that a new update was due in June. I've already found local issues that have been around for years that aren't in either so the updates are still years behind. We found the same in the Gold Coast with all the tram lanes. One nice thing about Tomtom even on my phone was user submitted updates kept things on top much more often.

Process
The stuff I need to insert is my VIN. The back end of the portal then figures out which map to download. It then gives me a link to downloader.exe with a parameter indicating to it which map it should download.
In my case for my MY15 Scout, i get this link from the Portal:
Once I click it, downloader.exe runs and the title bar of app changes to a direct path to the zip. In my case that is:
I can kill downloader.exe and still download the map directly by clicking the link to zip. My problem is the direct link is to an old file, thus my post asking for a direct link to the new file, which is the topic of this thread.
So what I am asking is for someone, who can download this new map, to read the URL from the titlebar of downloader.exe and post it here.
