Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Bloody ridiculous the muppets at Skoda/VW can't get the maps available for MY14/MY15 cars! They could have started putting the maps together from scratch and they should have finished by now given how long it has taken.

I got the response yesterday from a VW customer server ambassador that map updates will be available for my car "in the near future"

What that future is and where it is at - they didn't have a clue!

I remember the dealer telling me during the purchase last year that map updates are free for the first 3 years (during the warranty period). I naturally assumed that there will be at least 1 update every year for the Sat Nav. Now I know we'd be lucky to have even one during the warranty period!!!

Geeze this thing just didn't want to come down on my iMac so used my slow work laptop over the weekend. Got it, but the downloader app crashes and wants to format my 64GB exFAT SD card to FAT32. It then promptly crashes, I suspect my works 3 programs watching files and antivirus are playing havoc with it. I tried just copying the files after extracting which took hrs and then the car couldn't find them. Nothig else on the card just the extracted stuff. Now wondering if my issues with the POIS might all be this card. It works fine for media though.

Woofy I believe you need to use a 32Gb FAT32 card as per the factory card. That's what I used and it worked fine. Extraction only took seconds for me.

        Cheers,
        Karl

I've reformatted it to FAT32, and realised on my work laptop the SD card reader was set to some very slow setting that allows you to remove it without ejecting but meant to moved files at about 1MB/sec instead of the 10mb/sec it now is...

Yeah but is it a 64Gb card? I don't think cards over 32Gb work properly...

This is all going way over my head as I start having issues once I move beyond the on/off button. What I do know is that I have now successfully updated my maps twice on my MY16 Scout using a 128Gb card. During the last update it came up with a prompt telling me that I had to reformat the card to FAT32 which it then refused to do? I ignored that not knowing what else to do and it all worked anyway. Just don't ask me how or why!

Yeah the format tool does it for you. I moved the files onto the card myself and it didn't work so I've formatted the card to FAT32 and moving them again. They move so slow though I think something is scanning the files as they copy that I can't turn off. A 64GB or higher card is perfectly fine, media reads off it no probs in FATex format so just trying this in case its the cause of my trouble.

New Nav map available in Skoda update portal

Anyone here updated via the portal on their my14 octy?
The portal gives me the error : expired map. Renew here. But the expiry date, pre dates my actual purchase in July 2014.
I'll be grilling someone at Skoda as my dealer keeps telling me there are no updates. This is bs

The more the merrier. Nobody with MY13 to MY15 have been able to update their maps. there are sopme whom have been able to update MY16 cars but those maps don't work in earlier cars, we suspect they are VIN locked.

Finally got it to work this weekend, not sure why, but I did it when I was almost ready to leave the house. Then my wife got held up and the kids and I ended up starting the engine in the garage for 20min waiting for it it to finish as I couldn't cut the LED driving lights and didn't want the battery to go flat. Hopefully the car warming up and sitting idling for so long isn't a bad thing. Always hear it is these days and yet if you get a flat battery they tell you to let them idle for ages before sitting a battery charger in them.

Hi woofy. What MY1x model is yours? Also, I'd be interested to know your mib sw version as I reckon it might have something to do with the mib software version.

Given how VW has maintained their poor form over this issue, I shot off two emails, one to Skoda AU MD Michael Irmer and one to his secretary Laura-Kate Maddy a few weeks ago. The squeaky wheel seems to be about to get some grease!

I received a call a few weeks ago from VW CS asking if I would be keen to take my car in to the dealer, as their technical team may be close to cracking the code. I shared with them the days that suit me best, but I told them given how long this has dragged on, that I'll been keen whenever! As would all you guys who have waited frustratingly to get your MY14/MY15 cars' maps updated.

I wait in hope, and hopefully we get this before I sell the car. So if anyone wants their case moving an inch ahead, you know what to do.

Anyone else have any updates to share on this topic?

I escalated the issue to skoda's quality assurance team. They recently got in touch with me to participate in a workshop service audit program.
I'll be slamming skoda's service program after my Second annual service this month if it's not resolved.
I'd say I'll be needing the MD's email.

I don't think so anyone should wait for them to give us the information. If you put 2 and 2 together it is not too difficult to guess... you know what I mean.

Given all the recent scandals, denials and how VW MD still thinks people are aspirational towards their brands, I doubt they would lift their game towards existing customers anytime soon.
