Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Agree with everything you've said, but how did you do the POI's?

I've done it previously from another member here (or elsewhere) who created files, but they weren't too accurate, so disabled them again.
Where do you get the appropriate files for Aussie speed/red-light cameras?

the POIs i got are accurate, atleast here in Canberra.
i think i still have the zip file on my laptop at home. if i find it, i can share it with u.
its quite comprehensive, with petrol stations, shops, restaurants, mobile speed camera locations etc etc.

I'd definitely be interested in this, if you don't mind sharing with us?

Can you confirm that you are able to turn off particular types of POIs, after installing?
ie: mobile speed camera locations are pointless, as the name suggests - they're mobile, not static, so presumably those POIs can be de-selected?

this is the POI i loaded - u can download it here.
instructions are in the read file inside the zip.

with regards to turning on particular POI types - u certainly can.
i have the mobile speed camera turned off, for example. as u say, this not static.

              • Loaded up the personal points of interest and my nav bongs as I approach them. There is even a setting to turn this on and off.

Does anyone regularly use it in car sat nav when Google Maps / Waze is clearly better and now easier to use with Apple Carplay / Android Auto? My car doesn't even have Carplay/Auto and I still rather use my phone.
did they say how long you get map updates for if you pay $150?

i much prefer the sat nav over phone/google maps, but i have an MY15 vRS and it no longer updates

From my understanding it is something like 10 years.... Although i was told $99, so i guess the cost is negotiable.

I’ve always used the car satnav (MY15 Octavia Elegance Wagon) & update the Maps twice yearly. Have no issues with it whatsoever. Don’t have CarPlay but think I’d keep on using the satnav if I did

Live traffic is when I use the carplay apps. Often Apple Maps, Google maps and now Waze all do a better job on the fly at redirecting you. I have traffic turned on in the car GPS but its awful, so many times its led me stupid ways to get around an incident.

                          • Hi everyone, it's been a while since I have been here!
Sorry if this has been covered; I was able to get my maps updated during the service at a Skoda dealer for free (yippy!) although I was interested in a website that offers software updates with speed cameras ▷ Skoda Columbus 2 ( 2016 ) update. Speedcam for your maps. Download update. Free custom download.

Has anyone subscribed and tried it? They are asking for 13 pounds for an annual subscription...

                            • Go to Volkswagen Map & Softwareupdates
This is the VW site for satnav updates.
This site doesn't require a VIN, so it appears to be "unlocked" so anyone can d/l the appropriate updates.
Just make sure you choose the correct info unit version for your car.

I've used it twice now, in my 2016 Octy RS, with no issues. Still takes forever to download then unpack... I don't understand why you can't just choose the individual countries you want.... so we end up with 90% of the world's maps that we can't effectively use.

The Skoda portal seems to have an issue with it's latest offering, in that most people who d/l it, have corrupted or incomplete files when unpacked and trying to update.
