I cannot see how the zip files that you can download directly can be VIN locked. They’re just zip files. If there was some kind of vin-related key as a query Parma tagged on the end of the URL then maybe the server could modify the response file, but not as the URL currently stands.

MY16.5 Octavia RS wagon, manual, Moon White + tech pack + 18" black pack. -
Not saying the zip files are vin locked - saying the portal determines wat updates are available to ur specific vehicle based on the vin.
Is that somehow embedded in the one of the update files - don't know.

Just had my 2014 Octavia RS updated by the dealer - had some other service issues which were ironed out and they updated the map for free.
I was at the dealer for just under 2 hours. Good experience. Alto Skoda Artarmon in Sydney.Comment

Anyone managed to complete the latest ROW 2018 download? I have tried for a few days and it keeps getting time out mid way - which is frustrating. The download just died at about 12GB, each time. Just had my 2015 Octavia in for a service and map update today. Got home and found nav system says map installed is ROW2015, which it has been since new. And a quick check shows it is still missing a few new roads and streets in Canberra. But, a check on the update portal says I can now download MRM 2018. Will be back to talk to the dealer on Monday.Comment

This is certainly the right file for my vehicle. If you want to make sure that it is right update for your unit then go to update page, put in your VIN and it will verify for you the correct file.
