    • Nothing local has the options I want in the wagon as they have only just started being built.
In other news, just test drove a MKVI R. The decision just got that much harder.
      Now I have no idea.

      • Big price difference between a R and RS though.

        • Maybe not if it is a Mk6R.

                • This is where I run into issues. I don't necessarily need the extra space the RS affords, but the R has so much power and tuning potential it's hard to ignore.

Reasons for the RS is that everything is latest tech with the exception of the gearbox but that's proven (as would the 7 speed from the TTRS if it makes its way into this spec level).

Terribly confused and I'm not sure it's a fair comparison to make but it's one I have to make nonetheless.

It sorta is the Tiguan has the DQ500 7 speeder that's rated for high power and torque delivery.

Assume you got the 2.8% finance too - good deal !

                      • I passed on the 2.8 % finance deal. Its a bit of a scam, VW want $750 to set up the loan, the dealer wants $350 as their cut, then there s government charges + a fee if you pay out the loan early.

I thought when they say comparison rate they take all the fees into account with the interest to get the percentage?

They should do. But it's only based on a particular circumstance e.g. $30k for 5 years. Make sure you do your own analysis on an excel spreadsheet to work out your effective interest rate. Not unusual to see the interest blow out by a couple of %

                            • I took ours for a run down to Kiama yesterday since I had not driven it after we picked it up from the dealer.

Things I like - Engine and manual gearbox. This is really a standout for me. I'm no stranger to TSI engines but this new one is significantly better than anything I've used before. Lag is noticeably less than the 1.2 TSI I had before. The torque available at under 1500rpm is staggering for the size of engine. Economy is a standout too - 5.4/100 down and 6.1/100 on the way back with a detour via the RNP. I also like how I can leave the headlights switched on and they turn off when removing the key - great, I can leave the lights permanently on now.

Things I don't like - The ride. It's surprisingly poor. I didn't expect this and it's so bad it had me checking to see if the transport chocks were left in. It jiggles and bobs around like you wouldn't expect for a car of this type. After being impressed by a Mk7 Golf, the Octavia is not on the same level. I don't think it is due to the rear suspension. The choice of 17 inch wheels is at odds with the intended use of the car, so I might change them for the 16s the Ambition should come with or even 15s the Golf has. It's pretty stupid that if you want a comfortable long-distance tourer you would no doubt choose the travel pack with cruise control but in doing so you get bone-jarring 17s in the same pack. Another example of Skoda Australia's marketing fail. A few other small things; The USB port is so useless it has me wondering whether it can be removed. The Hill Hold Control can't be disabled. No one expects loud rattles and resonances from a new car but I have one from just behind the instrument binnacle. Great.

                              • Dealer just emailed me saying the canton is unavailable to order from the factory. I did order it separate to the tech pack so i don't know the exact reasoning behind it but i'm not totally fussed.
