Told them to test it with a glass of water and the windscreen rain sensor to test out they were surprized! A revolution! Asked if I could work at the dealership :p
The UK configurator doesn't seem to have a rear view camera option.

    Not in the brochure either.

ps neat trick about the auto winding of windows!

    • RVC was dropped as an option in the UK because of supply issues.

you guys really didn't know about the rain closing windows?... wow

      • Yeah most VAG cars with the Rain & Light sensor can do it, though its not usually on by default.

3 dealers I've tried have no manual GTI available for a test drive...only to buy.

            • I checked the fuel recommendation in the fuel cap area and it said 95ron.

              No 98 in sight.

What is recommended for the RS then? 98 due to performance engine or can 95 be used?
              Thoughts on 100?

              • AWD Octavia is interesting. Lol at key specs on bottom of article saying its front wheel drive. I might have chosen an Octavia AWD Elegance if offered, but would hope the AWD flows to the RS eventually.

                • Europe has had 4x4 non-Scout Octavias in the previous model too. I remember the last time I was in Geneva I went for a walk on my first day and saw one.

                  • Even Australia had the 4x4 wagons at some point....back when VAG were a little more generous with their offerings.

                    • I think that was because the Scout was late launching, they took them away after that. Could have done it this time as well though.

just run 98ron. Treat 95ron as "for emergencies only".

100ron in the eastern states is 98 with 10% ethanol. The engine is a bit perkier with it but it confuses the ECU and drinks fuel like a sailor on shore leave.

AWD was available when i bought mine. IIRC it was an $1800 option and restricted to certain engines & manual only. I don't think they sold many.

IIRC I optioned my "dream car" at the start (wagon, sports suspension, 17"s, AWD) and the price was about 25% more than the basic Elegance hatch I bought.

                        • Let me be the one to bring 'Budget 2014' into the mix!

Would be very interesting to see the increased fuel prices on the various Octane fuels.

I find fuel pricing irrelevant - just one of the non-negotiable costs of running a car. Depreciation is far greater.

In 2013 it cost me $1725 to drive 17,869km. If I'd dropped back to 95ron (5c cheaper/L??) I would have saved $60. I'd rather just forego a couple of cases of beer.

When I bought my car in july 2008 the price of 98ron was around $1.45-$1.65 right through to the start of 2009 then it dropped back to close to $1.00 and gradually climbed up to $1.50+ in 2011 - it hasn't changed much in the last 3.5 years fluctuating around the $1.55 +-10c area. So I don't think we've done too badly over the last 5-6 years. The excise changes will cost 1c now I believe but will start to hurt further down the track as they compound.

                            • If one doesn't like fuel prices then one can easily solve that problem....don't drive. I'm like Brad. It's just another expense of owning and operating a car.

Wonder how it may or may not impact on the automobile industry. Looking at the overall picture, families may decide not to buy that second car? I'm sure there will be a reluctance to spend and a tendency to save more.

                                - I know, this is slightly off topic.
